Father-Daughter Dance song--A little lost!

Melanie, on October 21, 2012 at 2:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

One of the parts of the wedding I am most excited about is the Father-Daughter dance. My dad and I are super close and I just cannot wait to have our dance together...if we ever pick a song! haha

He really wants to do Sunrise, Sunset from 'Fiddler on the Roof' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8_0seoCoOw); it fits the moment, I'm just not sure if it's dance-able. I had been thinking of Frank Sinatra or Liza Minelli, but dad really seems to like Sunrise, Sunset.

Thoughts??

I let my dad pick : ) I liked I loved her first but he liked Cinderella by Steven Curtis chapman and so I went with his pick he's tickled! He's paying for everything but me and my mom and making all the decisions so it was something he got to choose and it ment a lot to him!

My sister-in-law and father-in-law danced to Sunrise, Sunset at her wedding last year! It was definitely dance-able and they looked great!

I made my dad a cd of songs he liked and told him to pick. We still have some time to think about it but I hope he liked something on there.

It's slow enough, but it has a real waltz feel to it. Maybe see if your dad would be willing to take a couple of lessons and you can waltz to it. If it is a song that means something to him and you don't have any other ideas, then just go for what he wants. My dad let me pick, even though my pick is a little fast, but the song reminded us both of me when i was little (Just fishing by Trace Adkins)

I picked mine but did ask for my dads opinion on it and he loved it. I choose Butterfly Kisses he even sang it to me while dancing then he threw in our song which is the twist

@Soon to be mrs K: What a great idea!! I'm not usually into choreographed stuff, but I think that would be really awesome to learn to waltz with my dad!

I like the waltz idea. If not, talk to a music teacher at a local college? See if one of their students want to make a new arrangement for you guys for an extra credit assignment, or even a little bit of cash?

You're in luck. If you really want to use "Sunrise Sunset" you can get a contemporary version of it at www.weddingmusiccentral.com. They have produced it in 4/4 time (not a waltz in 3/4 time). You won't have to take dance lessons to do it well. It sounds like a today pop song rather than an ethnic sounding waltz. While you're there, you should also check out the great father daughter songs they have exclusively. You might just love "You're My Hero" which is a loving tribute to a father, especially since you say you're so close!
