Fat arms

Lex, on February 22, 2019 at 2:29 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 66
I just got my dress in yesterday! I sent a picture to my mom, because she lives out of state. The first thing she says is “it looks good, but you need to work on your arms”
Oof
She’s been trying to get me to lose weight since she got on her keto diet kick. I’m not super happy with my body now, but she just looks sickly from that diet. I’d rather eat a little healthier than look like I’m malnourished.
I’m really hurt about it, and I’ve told her plenty of times, but she just “wants me to look my best!” Whatever.
So, does anyone have any idea how to tell her to quit? And do you have any arm workouts that won’t aggravate my bad shoulder? I had planned on toning them, but now I have a bad taste in my mouth from her comments.

First, you look amazing! Second, I would google arm toning workouts for shoulder injury. Third, just be direct with your mom. Tell her how you feel about your own body image. Ultimately, people will say a myriad of things that are off-putting, but how you feel is what matters!

Your arms look fine! I would not waste one more minute worry about that. I'd strive for health more than looks. There are plenty skinny people that are super unhealthy.

Your arms look fine! The dress looks great! But I found this, just in case you want to try and tone them

If you had just posted these pictures saying that you found your dress, I would have never noticed anything about your arms and I'm fat. Your dress looks great on you, as you are. If you want to work on your arms, do it but do because you want to. Your mother of all people should realize how hurtful comments like that can be. I'm sorry your feelings got hurt and I am sure she means well but you need to tell her that comments like that are hurtful to you and that it wont magically make any changes she thinks you need happen overnight.

Oh my gosh. Shame on your mom for causing you insecurities! I don't think your arms look fat at all! In fact, I don't think any part of you looks fat in that dress. It looks great on you and really accentuates your figure.

Some of these diets today go way too far.

I would just tell your mom how you feel and that her comments are hurtful even though she means well. I would also tell her that if that diet is working for her it may not work for you because everyone is different. Just stay positive you look beautiful in your dress and I'm not just saying that to try to make you feel better. I genuinely mean what I say. Everyone will always have an opinion but at the end of the day as long as you feel good about yourself that is all that matters. You will be an amazing bride regardless. Do not let anyone tell you anything less than that. Keep your head up. You dont need to alter your body to what people feel like it should look like.

Um, you and your arms look absolutely, totally fine.

If you want to tone your arms for you (and not just because of your mom's comment) I can say that I've been going to Boxfit (combo of boxing and kickboxing) for almost 2 years now and I actually have muscles for the first time like, ever. Some of the moves might aggravate your shoulder, but if you tell the instructor about it I'm sure they could help you modify so that it doesn't.

You look great!! Ahh I love your dress!

My mother is always on me about trying to stick to my diet and tighten up before the wedding too. <_< I feel like it might be a mom thing. Especially since I told her that I wanted to lose some weight and so. I feel like they're just trying to keep us on track and it's all out of love.

Your dress is beautiful! I think I'd die if my mother said that to me. I think your arms look pretty damn good tbh...

Your arms look just fine but if you feel the need to tone them, I am sure there are exercises you can look up online. That being said, I would be honest with your mother and let her know how much it hurts you and that you prefer she not make comments about your body any longer.

Oh my God!!!!!!! You are beautiful. Arms and all. Promise me....no really, right now, promise me....you will not listen to one more syllable of her criticisms. They are reflective of her own insecurities and nothing whatsoever to do with you. Trust me on this. I wouldn't even bother bringing anything up to her about being hurt, it was likely never about you anyway. Instead, I would just let it go in one ear and out the other, secretly feel sorry for her and move on. Keep your own head held high and love who you are.

Girl, your arms are not fat and that dress is gorgeous on you! I don't have any good arm workouts. Any weight I pick up makes my elbows hurt.

Moms really know how to go straight for the jugular, don't they? Jeez, I know it's hard, as the one person we often seek approval from is our mom. But let me tell you right now, you look BEAUTIFUL!!! Love your dress, and if you hadn't said anything about arms, I wouldn't have even noticed. I think someone else said the same thing!

I am self conscious about my arms as well, so this kind of comment would hit me like a punch in the gut.

If you really want to tone your arms a bit, go ahead and do that. But don't do it because of what mom said. She's obviously facing her own body issues, and shouldn't be projecting them onto you. You are a beautiful woman!

You look stunning in your dress! I wouldn’t worry to much about what your mom says because, well she isn’t the one marrying you, your partner is.

As for toning them, barre classes are great for that, or doing small movements with a small weight many times. If you have a 3-5 lb weight at home it’s super easy to walk around doing bicep curls, rows, etc.

Seriously? I wish I had your "fat" arms! Ok, I shouldn't put myself down, but I didn't notice anything about your arms. You look awesome. Pay her no attention.

I'm super self conscious about my arms and my mom is pretty much the same as yours. She's always telling me to be more strict about my diet etc. I just ignore her. You look gorgeous in that dress!!
