Family Wedding Band

Is anyone wearing a family members engagement ring or wedding band as their own? And does it match with your other ring? What's the significance behind it?
When I get married later this month I am going to be wearing my grandmother's wedding band. We were extremely close, she basically raised me, she was my favorite person in the world. She sadly passed 2 years ago to cancer, and it's still hard to believe she's not here, I miss her every day. Before she passed, she let me choose between her engagement ring and wedding band to keep. I choose the wedding band because of the significance of it. Her and my grandfather were married for over 50 years, and had a wonderful marriage.

When I got engaged I realized that my engagement ring and her band dont match. They are both beautiful, but look a little odd together. Its very blingy! I can't imagine wearing a different band though. I am thinking of eventually repurposing the band so it fits better. I love the idea of having a part of my grandma with me every day.Family Wedding Band 1

I think it looks fine together. My fiance purposed to me with his grandmothers ring. She wanted me to have it. I absolutely love his grandmothers ring but it has an odd shape and I would have to have a wedding band custom made if I wanted it to match. But since I can't really wear my rings that much because of work I just choose a cheaper route. I'm just getting a plain gold wedding band it's not going to fit with the ring but I don't really care about its fitting well with the ring. Family Wedding Band 3

Have you thought about wearing her band on the opposite hand and still wear it everyday?

The band is beautiful! I get what you mean about it being a lot with such a large and blingy engagement ring. You could always opt for a very simple band to wear on your left hand, and wear the heirloom band on your right!

Wow that’s beautiful! It’s large (and stunning) stones might take away from your engagement ring. If it was me, I’d wear it on my right hand and do something smaller for my band.

My engagement ring was made from my grandmother's. The center stone was hers, but the rest is new.

Because of covid, we didn't have time to get traditional wedding bands, so at least for the time being, we have silicone rings, and mine does not match my engagement ring. I like the idea that other people brought up about moving one ring to your right hand. If you don't want to get another ring, you could just move your engagement ring to your right hand and leave your/your grandmother's band on your left hand.

I love these rings together. I was shocked when you said it’s silicone!

Yes, my engagement ring is my grandmother's, and we didn't change anything about it except for having the band re-sized. It is so special to have a part of her with me every day. And it's also special to hear about other brides who get to experience the same feeling Smiley smile

That being said, we did have my wedding band custom made to match my engagement ring, since it was a unique heirloom piece. It was important to make sure we didn't mix metals, etc. I don't necessarily think that your rings look too blingy together, but you can always take it to a jeweler and ask if they can change some things to make them match a bit better. If you do this, then I would definitely wait until after your wedding, because these things can take time. Best of luck!

Thanks! The engagement ring is real, but the we got our silicone bands from enso rings. They make some that have real metals (like rose gold in mine) or stones mixed into the silicone, so that might make it look more real.
