Family wearing wedding colors?

Kat_Kor, on January 28, 2017 at 1:26 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 17

My wedding colors are purple and silver. The bridesmaids are wearing plum dresses and the groomsmen are in silver/gray suits. It seems that the women in my family think they need to find purple dresses to wear... Is this a new thing? I would prefer if they wore anything BUT that color. Am I wrong? How do I tell them, especially if they've already found a dress that's purple? Smiley sad

You're not wrong lol that's insane. You can't tell them not to wear purple though. That's a tough one.

That's not a new thing. I think it's very strange.

You can't tell adults how to dress, but if they ask you can certainly say you'd prefer they don't wear purple.

Maybe suggest a color for them? Or clarify it's just wedding party normally that wears designated colors

These are my colors too and yes, all my ladies are looking for purple dresses. While I'm trying to push some to at least consider silver (just bc it looks better on some of them) I don't mind. Purple is my favorite color and I would love to see a sea of it. If I could get the guests to dress in purple I would be truly overjoyed, but alas, the guests are not my playthings.

I've never heard of such a thing. I know guests are supposed to stay away from white but never heard of bridal party family all wearing wedding colors. That steals the light away from the bridal party

I've had people ask too what our colors are so that they don't "clash" with our colors.. I thought it was strange. I've always just thought as long as you don't wear white, any color dress is game on lol

No, not a new thing. You can't tell people what to wear, though. If you are close to your family and they haven't yet bought a dress, you can let them know you would prefer they wear a color other than purple or silver.

Let them wear what they want. Their dress is 90% likely to not match the color or style of the dress your BM's are wearing. My father is going to try to wear the same tux as the GM are. I personally don't give a shit. It's not really a big deal or anything to worry about.

Ive seen this more and more lately.... when i was younger I thought it was not proper to wear the wedding colors.... But this seems to be the norm in my circle....

with that being said.... my sisters and FSIL and Hostesses are wearing pink which is not a main color in my scheme of things but just simply the POP of color I wanted!

FH's fam loves to match/be in complimentary colors of the wedding and has been asking what they are. I'm fine with it.

My in laws did the exact same thing to me. Their whole side of the family was in a shade of blue. I hated it but you can't tell people what to wear so I said nothing.

I've seen the mother-in-law and mother wear different shades of the wedding colors but never the exact shade!

That's not new. My mother, my aunt, my grandma, ......other family members.....always tries to coordinate with our wedding colors.

I don't really mind. It's obvious that they aren't bridesmaids or whatever.

That's really bizarre....I've had people ask me what our colors are so that they purposely don't wear the same color as the BP. Actually wanting to match? That's a new one lol I once went to a wedding where I had on the same color as the BP (I had no clue beforehand) and I felt sooooooo awkward.

Omg, my side of the family did this! Our colors were ivory, blush, burgundy and gold and everyone wore burgundy lol! My in-laws on the other hand, chose colors that weren't so similar. My dad was hilarious because he pointed to a color that was on our invitation and told us that it was the basis of his entire look!

A lot of my beach weddings have the guests in matching colors. At least it makes it easier for me to find them on the beach!
