For what you are looking for, I would suggest VistaPrint. They constantly offer freebies and discounts, and most of their products are pretty awesome. If you use the search function here in the forums, you will find several recent posts about VP that should be able to give you all the info you need. That, and of course the ladies here are awesome for advice.

I DIY'd all of my invitations. It was VERY cheap. I used cardstock and my computer printer. They're simple, yet elegant. I made them small so that I saved money on paper and envelopes (I am also able to mail them with only a single stamp). I did insert a business card sized paper giving RSVP info and registry info. My RSVP is an email address and a phone number. All in all...I will mail out around 200 invites for a mere $120 (I used a copier at work to make the copies of the actual 'invite'; the white cardstock with black print...so I may have cheated a bit.

Is there a family member that you can borrow a printer from? Printing invites for 25 people with a computer printer should be major cheap.

I would suggest postcards? Something like Save the Dates?

I'm doing immediate family also, but I'm not mailing out anything. I can call these people up and tell them to come to the wedding and they're not going to miss it.

(However I am cheating and designing one fancy wedding announcement to place in the wedding photos as a style element, and to help tell our wedding story in picture and video. Well, I'm paying someone to design it anyway).

You might still add inserts with the reception venue address/directions if it's different from the ceremony location. Just so people can plan the day. And I like traditional RSVP cards, but I'm also geeky about stationery that way.

I don't think you really need the inserts, but it might be nice, is what I'm saying.

We went with Invitation Discounters. We were very pleased with them. We saved like $200 off of retail. http://www.invitationdiscounters.com.

Some of the prices on their budget invitations from the Birchcraft and Carlson Craft lines were so low, it was hard to believe (like $55 which included shipping, invitations and enclosures for raised ink invites)??!!!

We ended up going a little higher end with a shimmer pocket because I had out of town guests I needed to provide a lot of info but our wedding was not large either and we saved big time!
