A friend of mine just told me that she's looking for a fake engagement ring to wear when she travels or for if she ever needs to send her ring in for sizing/repair. I've heard of people wearing silicone rings when they can't wear their actual ring but I've never heard of getting a ring that's similar to their engagement ring but less expensive. Has anyone else done this or heard of it being done?

I've heard of this. TBH I really have been considering it for when I travel since a lot of times I have to leave it at home Smiley sad

In certain countries pick pockets will see you as a target with flashy jewelry

I just ordered a $40 plain Sterling silver band for travel. I realize not wanting to lose your diamond when you travel but you also don't want someone to cut your finger off for your diamond. Do something simple for a travel band, not the same.

We aren't married yet but I'm so terrified of something happening to my beautiful rings that I already have a plan. My grandfather gave me a simple gold band with a few tiny diamonds in it years ago so I'll just wear that when I travel or when my ring is being repaired.

Do you guys not have ring insurance? This would seem to mitigate most of these concerns.

I travel overseas all the time, everyone has rings. Walking in a particular dodgy spot? Don't wave your hand around. Problem solved.

I've seen silicone ones on amazon that I've thought about wearing for traveling out of the country but I haven't bought one yet. People I work with have worn a plain band instead of their ring

I bought a fake ring over the weekend to take on our cruise for the honeymoon. I got it for $10.00 at Charming Charlie.

My fiance bought my diamond and had it set as a solitare so that we could choose my setting together without ruining the surprise. I didn't want to waste a perfectly good white gold ring so I got his birthstone put in and I use it as my decoy ring. Pretty handy when you live in NYC.

    Middle: new setting

    Right: original setting with aquamarine.

Because I'm on mobile I have to separate the photos. So, here is my silicone ring for whenever I want to wear something super light or if I'm doing anything strenuous. If I had not changed the setting I probably would have just stuck to getting a silicone band. That's Roxy, by the way. All judgmental and what not Smiley tongue

Silicone band from Amazon is what I have. Four different colors for $12 bucks. I am happy wearing a obvious teal silicone band because ain't nobody gonna rob me for that!

I would get a silicone ring, not a fake look-alike. Like PPs have said, you could still get robbed for a look-alike and end up injured or at least shaken up and scared all for a $10 knock off. I'd get something that does not resemble a diamond.

Yep, I bought a $23 CZ ring that looks very similar to my engagement ring to wear when I don't feel comfortable wearing my actual ring.

ETA: Yes, my ring is insured. I don't really want to ever have to replace my ring. Even though the replacement would be exactly the same as it is now, it would hurt my heart knowing that it wasn't the same one that FH proposed with.

I think that's silly. Get your ring on your insurance, wear it, love it, and don't worry about it. And if security is a genuine concern, perhaps don't vacation in places where getting your finger cut off is an actual possibility.

Qalo is awesome. I use that in place of mine for working out and going anywhere. Sign up for their emails. They constantly have deals for them!

I have a fake one. I bought it for like 5 bucks. It's cz but when we travel And stay in a hotel and say I shower or whatnot- I don't want to worry about forgetting it or having it get stolen. I do have mine insured, but just because it is doesn't mean i want anything to happen to it.

I use to work at the hospital and I know plenty of people that wear silicone rings and love them. But I have one friend who bought a fake ring to wear for whenever she couldn't wear her ring

I've heard people doing this for trips, especially if it's a lot of beach and swimming or hiking. Qalo are great for that, but if you want that extra bling, etsy has a ton that are good quality

I knew a woman who did this when she worked in restaurants. I get it, I don't intend to wear my ring on our honeymoon and I bought silicone ones to bring but it makes me a little sad. I love my ring and wear it every day. It would be kind of nice to still have something shiny, bubt as long as I have something I'm happy.

I will have one for when we sail to other countries.. This one will go in the safe Smiley smile... It means to much to me and flashy things make you a target.

I've heard of it, but like PP's I don't see the point of trying to avoid being a robbery target by just wearing flashy rings that are fake. Just don't wear anything.

I also I guess am one of the odd ones that also don't see the point of silicon rings for going to the gym or things like that. I just don't wear my rings and it's never been an issue. But I do understand why people get them.
