Facebook Wedding Group's Are Strange

Light, on December 24, 2019 at 7:40 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

Hi all,

First off, Merry Christmas I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season.

Has anyone else joined a wedding group for your city on FB? I joined a massive one and there are tons of vendors, but everyone time I've posted or seen someone post I swear it's like releasing the flood gate. I decided to look for a Magic Mirror, because I love cheesy things like photo booths. Every time I post though my inbox gets flooded my unrelated requests from just about every type of vendor under the sun. I know weddings are huge for making money, but I wish the process was more relaxing and less sales based.

You’re probably better off to check out the vendor tab here on wedding wire. That way you’re only reaching out to and hearing from the people you actually want to. We found our photo booth vendor here on WW.

I would do google searches and even Instagram! Instagram is a great tool for doing searches by hashtag and seeing what people can offer without being hassled. If you see a vendor you like, you message them.

I couldn't find any Magic Mirrors in the area through WW. I think they are just starting to show up around here.

Gotcha. Have you been to any wedding shows in your area? We saw a few at vendor booths at wedding shows.

I haven't, but I've been really lucky so far in finding vendors. The mirror is something I decided to tack on last.

I used FB Wedding Group, and it helped me tremendously. All the vendors are very respectful, they would post something like can I DM you before they actually send me messages. I found my Magic Mirror on there for lesser price (hope it will turn out great). I also bought some of the used wedding items from other brides for half a price on there.

I've been debating making decorations or buying them used. One of my Bridesmaids is a DIY master and they're are so many cute items out there.

I've joined a wedding group for my state and love it! It's less vendors and more brides giving reviews on vendors and updating on their planning process! I love it!

I really love the FB wedding group I'm in for my area. It's women only; so only brides and women vendors are allowed in (though male vendors do get recommended by brides). One of the group's rules is no direct messaging unless a bride asks for it, so we don't have inboxes blown up. There are the few who don't follow that rule, but I have just automatically disregarded their messages. Maybe you can put a comment on your posts with something along the lines of, "Please leave all recommendations in the comments. Private messages will not be looked at."

Some of the stuff were easier to buy them. I actually own a Cricut machine, and I have been making my wedding invitations, but it's definitely very time consuming.

I think there are some FB groups or forums that explicitly prohibit vendors from joining, if that's what you're not liking. I deleted my FB in 2018, but there are lots of Reddit wedding planning groups that are location specific that are for engaged persons only. You can get word-of-mouth recs from brides/grooms who have used those vendors, and not get flooded with messages from the vendors themselves.
