Extra time between ceremony and cocktail hour

Has anyone ever been to a wedding or had their wedding and left extra time between church reception and cocktail hour so the bride groom and bridal party can enjoy cocktail hour instead of missing it and taking pictures?

Its NOT treating people like shit by having a gap though. Many cultures and religions have a common place where the wedding IS an all day event, sometimes even lasting DAYS.

If you live in an area or are part of a culture where an all day wedding is common place then it IS perfectly acceptable to do so. Personally, I know that when I get invited to a wedding then the ENTIRE day will be filled with wedding events. I know that I may have to travel up to an hour to get to the ceremony that most likely starts around 1-2pm, knowing full well that there will be a reception starting around 5-6pm.

And while sometimes I dislike knowing that I won't be having the time to do what I like to or need to that day, I do it BECAUSE it IS "their special day." I definitely don't feel as though I am being mistreated by my friends or family because of the scheduling.

What exactly are you worried about missing? We are having a cocktail hour while we take photos, but the coordinator said that they always keep aside some of the appetizers served during cocktail hour for the couple to enjoy when they get back. Otherwise, I'm not sure what you would be missing that you won't get to enjoy during the reception.

I'm not a fan of a gap in between unless it is unavoidable.

I understand needing a gap for better pictures, but wanting a a gap to eat food and hang out? Our venue is bringing the food upstairs for us and then what about the entrance? I'm confused.

Stand around with "light refreshments" in a social hall and make idle chit cat with people for 2+ hours? No thanks.

Wow. Maybe I should have kept my two-cents to myself. Clearly there are some very strong opinions on this topic. My wedding plans are what they are, and that's the way we're doing it. It doesn't mean everyone else has to do it the same way. I think you should do what works best for you, your guests, and keep in mind what is the norm for the area you are celebrating in. There are many factors at play that determine your day-of timeline, and you can only take these into consideration and make the best decision possible. And now, I will excuse myself from this conversation.
