Evening wedding blues

Sarah, on November 4, 2022 at 6:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hi, I got married a month ago and had such a lovely day! I got married in the uk and uk weddings are generally longer than American ones. The day was perfect! We had 70 guests for our ceremony. We had 20 more guests arriving in the evening (6:30pm) to celebrate with us where we had a Photo Booth, dj and pizza. I feel bad but I cannot help feeling a bit disappointed about my wedding night. My evening reception started at 6:30 and was meant to last till 12am which is standard timings for a uk wedding. At the start of the reception we had around 90 guests. I noticed that about 15 of my day guests left after the first dance and cake cutting. So about 20 people left before 10pm. Two of which included my bridesmaids who were staying at the venue and had no children with them. So at 10pm we had around 60/65 guests. Then at around 11pm we must have had around 40/45 guests with us. Is it normal that numbers dip this much? And has this happened to anyone else? Not she if I’m overreacting! We had people dancing all night but noticed numbers were getting less!

There is no reason to be down about it. That seems like a good percentage of people staying later and why were you counting? lol. The day can be long for anyone. Many people will be visiting with each other and waiting to see the bride and groom come by. After that, they can be satisfied to have enjoyed the event. Fewer people end up having the drive to keep partying until the very end. This all seems natural.

Personally I know that by 10-10:30 I am ready to leave any event. I think you had a decent turnout late into the evening. The cutting of the cake is a signal to many that it's the end of "formalities " and beginning of party time, so the older group tend to leave at thatvtime.

Totally normal. Guests get full and tired. My reception was meant to go until 11pm but we saw numbers dwindling around 10pm so decided to do our sparkler exit at 10:15/10:30.

Thank you! I think it’s just that at my friends wedding a few months later she made a comment that everyone stayed till the end. Also had about 12 friends and their partners leave earlier than I left their like before 11pm. Uk weddings tend to be quite full later on.

The focus is on your wedding and your marriage. Is it really a problem if your friends are wiser and know the benefit of a good night's rest? If you are not in a competition to have the latest running parties, you have done your duty. And you got the necessary result -- you are married. Don't try to be comparing yourself to everyone else. ENJOY THINGS!

Hi Saraha this did happen to me had invited about 65-70 but a day before and on the day. Have told me and my husband now that they had a family affair to go to but you told us Friday that you will be here. So numbers dropped then the actual wedding day we had 55 ppl in attendance. Wedding ceremony went great and reception time DJ was playing good music ppl were dancing once we were introduced so after dinner was begin served. Some guests had to leave but we still partied with the 40 that was left. In all I married the love of my life so I'm not saddened about it at all. It's just life sweetheart enjoy your life with your new husband I am a newlywed too. And I doing just that

This happened at ours too. I just focused on having a blast dancing with those who did stay. We were at a wedding recently, and even though we always stay to the end of weddings and are up dancing the whole time, we were both pretty tired by 10:30.
