Essential or Extra? - Photo booths

Maren, on September 4, 2018 at 11:31 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 118

Let’s talk about photo booths! Are you having a photobooth at your wedding reception? Is it a little too extra for you, or just the right amount of fun? Essential or Extra?

I don't think it's essential, but my fh really wants one, so we'll have one.

We aren't having one. I think they can be fun, but I don't think they're essential.

That said, my DJ just emailed me and said that since his photo booth won't be in use on our wedding weekend, he can offer me a "deal" to bring all the stuff for only $250. I don't know what to think of that. He says it's: "the booth with unlimited sittings/prints for guests as well as a thumbdrive after the event with all photo strips and individual photos".

It... seems like a good deal? But do I really want to spend $250 that I hadn't planned on spending?

Extra. I've been to weddings with photo booths and while they were fun, at every one the DJ had to make multiple announcements to get anyone to use it. I just don't see it being a big draw for our guests so I'd rather spend that money on more food or favors for our guests.

Hi BRae! Makes sense. I agree, non-essential but fun. You and your guests will get some great, fun pictures this way, too, from your reception. Smiley heart

Its a extra. We were initially going to do a full on photo booth but, decided to have my Dad build a backdrop, put my DSLR on a stand and hand over the remote to guests. Its going to save us about $400.

Now I got mine included in the price of the dj (1400 for DJ and photo booth, which is an awesome deal!)

but it’s an extra. I wouldn’t pay a ton of money on one. You can always make a diy for way cheaper

I ultimately decided this was essential because everyone wants a picture with the bride on her wedding night so instead of having some poorly lit, ugly background photos of me plastered all over Facebook, I decided to go ahead and supply the backdrop, lighting and props so that people will actually post cute pictures of me!

I agree! I was looking at $400-500 photobooths that didn’t really fit in my budget, and then made a $180 DIY one from Amazon! Of course, people will have to use their iphones to take the photos instead of a professional camera, but I thought this was best because you always have that person who says, “Take one on my phone too!” anyways.

I’m following this thread. We’re ambivalent about it. It’s one of those things that’s fun if there is one, but I don’t miss it if it’s not there.

Hi Cassandra! That's awesome that yours was included. Also, DIY is a great idea with photo booths! I totally forgot about that. You can make your own backdrop and bring props, etc. Smiley heart So cute!

Thank you! Our theme is Harlem Renaissance so we went with a Paper moon style. He is building it with the bench attached and FH is going to paint it.

So extra, my crowd doesn't use them. I want everyone on the dance floor.

Extra, it was not worth the cost for the number of guests that would actually enjoy it!

Not essential and we don't have one, but we are doing a photo guest book and I made props for guests to use.

An actual photobooth is extra. We are renting some instant cameras and having people take photos and stick them into our guest book. If we had a few hundred extra then we would rent a normal one for sure.
