Engagement vs Wedding photographer

FutureMIW, on April 27, 2017 at 4:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Is it rude or silly to use two different photographers, one for the engagement photos and another for the wedding?

I don't think so especially if your photographer doesn't offer an engagement package. Some are so busy they can't fit them in.

There's nothing wrong with using 2 different photographers. It's generally recommended to do an engagement session so you can get to know your wedding photographer and get used to posing in front of the camera.

My wedding photography package didn't include an engagement shoot, but I paid to add it because I wanted to have the same photographer. My photographer also charged a little less for adding the engagement pictures than she charges to do just e-pics separately.

No, we did that. Our favorite photographer doesn't do weddings any more, but we have been having her take our picture for years and couldn't imagine not having her do our engagements too

It's definitely acceptable to have two different photographers. My mom is doing our engagement pictures because with our moving duty stations this year we are very limited on time to go to WIsconsin for them and she has done lots of other people's engagement/wedding/family photos before. I don't think I will ask her to do my wedding because she should get to enjoy herself for that.

You can do what you want, but I would be nervous; e-pics gives you an opportunity for a test run. If you're happy with the e-pics, then stick with that person for the wedding.

There's nothing wrong with it but using the same one gives you a chance to get comfortable with your photographer before your wedding day

I actually have to use 2. My mom, a photographer herself, graciously offered to do our e photos so we don't have to worry about traveling 9 hours away to use our wedding photographer (ETA, yes there's a contract, not doing a momdor). Actually, e photos are a great way of finding out who you would like to do your wedding photos.

We used two different ones because we live in AZ and got married in DE and an engagement shoot just wasn't going to happen in DE. We ended up booking g our wedding h photographer the same month we had our e-pic shoot scheduled. Our wedding photographer completely understood why we had already booked a separate photographer for e-pics and offered a credit since her package was going to include an engagement shoot.

Had we not lived so far away, I don't think we would have booked separate photographers for e-pics and the wedding. I would have liked getting to work with the wedding photographer before the wedding to get comfortable and since it was included in the package...why not?

My close friend did our engagement photos (she just started doing shoots about a year ago) and we hired a professional photographer that will shoot our wedding. The engagement photos turned out really great and we received tons of compliments.
