Engagement shoot locations in MD or DC

Natalie, on August 15, 2016 at 6:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Hey all! FH and I are flying in from CA next week to do our engagement shoot and take care of other wedding business. FH knows the area a little better than I do, but neither of us are sure where we want to do our engagement shoot. We asked our photographer and FFIL who is also a photographer for ideas. I'm going to list all of the suggestions in the comments. I'd love to know what the WW community thinks of these and if they have ideas of places not on the list. Also, if you have pictures, I'd love to see 'em.

I love the pics of Old Town Alexandria that are showing up in Google Images! The photographer originally had Historic Ellicott City on the list, but after the recent floods, that's not going to happen.

Old Town Alexandria looks really pretty, I just googled it as well. I love those buildings.

If you want a Washington-esque monument with no crowds, try the World War I Memorial. It has fluted columns, steps, and a dome all in classic white marble. Right off The Mall, by the Cherry Trees.

Also, please don't take pictures at Arlington National Cemetery. My grandfather is buried there and I find that trend hugely disrespectful.

The National Harbor is especially beautiful. The construction of the new MGM won't be in the way.

We did our engagement photos in Federal Hill in Baltimore! Literally, on Fed Hill and then walked down and took pictures near the water.

Great list! The National Gallery Sculpture Garden and the Georgetown Waterfront Park are the only other places I can think of, but they're both a bit more crowded than some other places on the list.

I would choose downtown Annapolis over those, although some places are really cool. If you're not from Maryland, then I would go with somewhere more scenic like an arboretum or Great falls park. You might feel weird looking back at your photos if the place had no meaning/ties to you and your FH.
