Engagement ring sizing issues!!

HappilyEverAfter329, on November 26, 2016 at 10:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hey everyone!!

So my when FH got my ring initially it was pretty big (I don't own any rings, so he had nothing to go by haha) anyways we got it sized to a 5 and a quarter, but when I got it back it was still pretty loose. The jeweler said that if I got it any smaller it wouldn't fit over my knuckle. He said he can put sizing beads it. The only issue is that it feels so loose that it literally slips off of my finger. Had anyone had this issue? I'm not sure what to do?

I would do what your jeweler suggested. Sizing your ring too much is damaging.

How can it be at risk for not going over your knuckle, but then you say it literally falls off your finger, which would be falling off the same knuckle your ring barely fits over?

I'd stick with the jeweler suggestion. I had a ring sized to that size and felt the exact same way.. and I'm glad I did not go down further because as my finger size fluctuates (exercising, hot weather, etc...) sometimes it's snug, others it's a bit loose.

Do what your jeweler suggests. My ring is a little big, and in the morning it feels like it could slip off. However, its winter, and in the summer I know it would be too small if it were any smaller.

My engagement ring is a little loose when my hands are cold or wet but in the summer, it fits perfectly. You could buy a small band that's a size smaller to wear over top of it too. I personally would rather have it a tad big than too small and never be able to wear it if I gain weight.

I would get a second opinion- it should not be able to slip off like that.

My wedding band is a half size too big. Thankfully my engagement ring is the right size and it keeps the band in place. I'd go with sizing beads or the plastic slip on cushion. Mine almost slipped off when I first got it (it was already sized down to a 6) so I had it sized down to a 5.5 and the jeweler said it didn't need to be sized again. For something way less permanent, I think you can get the plastic cushion things at Claire's or Target.

As someone who has a smaller ring size. Sizing beads/bars etc. in my experience are extremely uncomfortable long ago I went with the jewelers advice of adding sizing bar to a promise ring. It was unbearable to wear. I had to just scrap that ring because it was unable to be sized down small enough with the setting and pick out a new one. I would say go get a second opinion, make sure it is a reputable ideally independent jeweler. From what you are describing it needs to be sized down so getting a second opinion is reasonable.

If you had it sized during the summer then your fingers swell during the summer so it might have caused the issue. Mine fit perfectly this summer but is super loose now. If I go any smaller then it won't fit during the summer. Try getting the little plastic sizer things. They help a lot!

You can get the bottom squared out so it doesn't move from side to side. My old engagement ring has it done. (:

I would d what the jeweler says, mine is a little large too but I'm not resizing again because I know it not good for the ring.

Do the sizing beads I had them put in and they work great. The best part is that they are removable which is good because as others mentioned ring size can go up and down based on seasons.

Maybe a ring snuggie will give you what your needing when you need it. It's a silicone detachable piece. Check out target or Amazon.

I had mine sized between two sizes. It's a little bit snug going over my knuckle but doesn't go back over it so if yours is flying off that's definitely too big. I agree with listening to the jeweler but I do think that if you need to push it over your knuckle, it's unlikely that it would slip off the other way.

I had to get my ring sized down to a 4.25 because my fingers are so small. The jeweler did an excellent job adding a bar of gold to prevent the ring from spinning. I can't even feel the bar. Make sure you have a good jeweler do the work. You don't want to risk it falling off.

Definitely get a second opinion. My FH had bought my ring a 3 and a quarter, but it kept falling off. A few jewelers recommended sizing heads, etc. but I had heard of how uncomfortable they can be. I took it to a trusted jeweler in the area and he measured my finger and sized it to a small 3!

Have you had your finger sized? You can try that and then compare the ring to the size of your finger.

Initially, I had a sizer added. It was attached at one end and the other end was like a diving board -- would flatten to go over my knuckle and then spring up to keep the e-ring from spinning. But, after a while, the sizer snapped off from being flattened so many times.

Then, I had sizing beads added. They also keep the e-ring from spinning and I honestly don't even feel them.

I have the same issue. The jeweler told me the only option I had was to put the beads in. My finger is slim but I broke my knuckle some years ago, so the beads were a huge help! It was annoying at first, but it's a decent solution!

I have the same issue. To make a ring feel good & not loose it needs to be about a size 4, but to get over my knuckle, it's got to be at least a 4.75. There's not a whole lot that can be done the beads are a good solution.

I am having my rings soldered together so at least they won't all roll around as much, but it doesn't help with how loose they are.
