Engagement photo tipping

Ashley, on September 25, 2022 at 7:50 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hello!

Is it expected to tip your photographer that is doing your engagement photos? We have a package deal for engagement and wedding photos so we already have them paid for.
Thank you!

It is up to you of course, but yes, it is customary to tip your photographer

Per The Knot, it’s not really expected for photo or video. But if they’re a photographer that’s part of a big company and don’t own the studio, they suggest giving them a little something.

Where we are, that is not a thing because engagement pictures are part of the larger photography process that is not tipped until after the wedding day when photos are received. If you feel they went above and beyond, then do what you wish. But keep in mind that you won’t see the final product for a few weeks, and it’s strongly recommended to wait until that time if you choose to tip. There are many horror stories online of couples tipping the photographer well before they receive pictures and the vendor/client relationship spirals into a bad place.

Tip isn't typically expected for photographer or videography unless they are enjoyed by a bigger company. If they own their own business tip isn't expected. I struggled with tip issue for a bit. In the case of photography you can of course tip after you've received your photos if you think they did an excellent job. You can send a tip in the mail after the wedding if you feel that they went above and beyond your expectations. Not required though, I'm tipping after we get photos. She did an excellent job, but that also helped with costs the day of the wedding, we'll have more funds after the fact. Same with videography if it's their company tip isn't required, but a nice extra if you decide to do that.
