End of July/beginning of August weddings...should we postpone?

Carli, on April 13, 2020 at 11:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 10
How is everyone feeling about the end of july/beginning of August weddings? I was probably supposed to get married April 18th, and postponed to August 1st right as the virus started to get bad. I’ve had my shower and bach. already, and have everything all set to go. Now it is just a waiting game!! I know last week and the next week or so will be discouraging in terms of the virus, but hoping after that, there will be some light at the end of the tunnel. I just wanted to get a feel for what everyone else is doing. Are you postponing? Waiting it out? Hoping come June, life will start re-entering into our “new normal”

Completely feel you. My date is August 22 with 300+ people (originally 420 anticipated but this will probably decrease to 200-250 now) in Long Island, NY. One of the worst hit places in the country. We are definitely getting married on 8/22, but might postpone the reception.

We are waiting till June to see what the new normal is in terms of gathering size. We are also waiting to send out invites in case we have to downsize to 100 or fewer guests. In the meanwhile, just trying to relax and leave the rest up to June. Definitely avoiding signing any future contracts though in case we have changes.

We postponed from May 9 to August 14 and we are still hopeful. We are expecting around 200+ guests and can’t really cut it down at this point. Save the dates and change the dates have gone out. We are going to reassess in June if we have to, but I think it is too soon to pull the plug when we just don’t know how it’ll be looking by then!

We are all waiting and praying august should be a good date. CDC says that virus doesn't do well in Heat that it should die out. Wish you all the best and good luck on your special day and your marriage overall.

We postponed our April wedding to August, and the wait has been killer! We won't postpone again - we'll probably just take the financial hit and call it a day because I don't want to plan a third time. But I really think we'll be ok! You may need to cut your guest list, but I think more than 10 people will be ok. Being married is more important to me than a big wedding, and we already eloped. So just holding out hope to use the dress I slimmed down for lol.

July 25th and still waiting it out. Although I think about it every day, I've told myself to wait until the beginning of May to consider any decisions about it. It's tough because no one can tell you definitively what to do about it and everything I read from brides getting married during the time runs the gamut between postponing and forging ahead.

I'm in hoboken (although getting married in Philadelphia), so not too far off from you, so I definitely understand how you are feeling!!! I could imagine there might be some sort of cdc recommendation on sizes of gatherings, but I agree waiting until June!

I hope it doesn't do well in heat!!! That would be a welcomed positive for us!

I agree, it is hard to know what to do because this has never happened before. I read a lot of brides keeping their date and postponing. Time will tell!!

We are in August 15th, and plan to wait a little longer to make a decision. Hoping we can continue as planned!
