Emerald Rings!

Serina, on April 3, 2019 at 9:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Do you have an emerald ring? Show us pics! Tell everyone how you like it!
I proposed to my fiance with a sapphire (his favorite color is blue) wedding band, so he's shopping for my ring now. I asked for an emerald instead of a diamond ring. I'd love to see other engagement emeralds Smiley smile

Be very careful! My original engagement ring was emerald and diamonds. Two of the emeralds chipped after just a few months. They were just small chips on the edges, but that was enough to make the stones loose in the setting. When I got estimates for repairs, every jeweler I talked to said that emeralds should not be in wedding sets because they are not hard enough for everyday wear. We had to replace my ring with a diamond engagement ring. I'll have the emerald ring repaired for special occasions.

Oh my! That is so sad Smiley sad I'm glad that you repaired it before the stones could fall out! But very good to know; thanks for the info.

I wish I did. All I know is her and her husband were at a family owned jewelry store in New York years and years ago when she saw it. She said she liked it and he brought it then proposed to her.

Word of caution, emeralds are somewhat fragile and not very suitable every day use in a ring. It's because it's about an 8 on the mohs scale. It will be a very high maintenance ring and the stone has to be replaced every now and then with either another emerald/ stone

Suggestion to get the look you want... Green Sapphire. They are affordable compared to diamonds. Green Sapphires come in many shades of green. They have a mohs scale of a 9. They are suitable for everyday use. Sapphires come in every color but red because that is a ruby.

Sorry for the double post but also

This is my ring from JamesAllen.com

They do have a selection of emeralds and settings. They have an example of my ring with an emerald.

What about tourmaline? Not emerald but still green!

I have not done a good job at capturing the color accurately in any of my own pictures. I included a photo from the Etsy shop it came from with better lighting to show the color. My band is rose gold rather than yellow (also hard to tell in pics). I LOVE it!

What are you envisioning for your ring?

That's so beautiful! Other stones are a good idea - I have recently been looking at tsavorite garnets because I love that bright, grass green color.

I wish I did but I don’t. I just know it was a family owned store. Also, if you do get an emerald it’s my birthstone, you do have to very careful with them. I remember my coworker didn’t wear hers too often because of that.

I am in love with my engagement ring. My fiance and bestfriend/MOH picked the perfect one! Green is my favorite color, Emerald is my favorite stone, and The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie/book (Emerald City), so the choice of stone was pretty clear but they nailed the design too!

Naturally-mined Emeralds are very soft and prone to breakage. So, mine is lab-created, which I prefer because it is both significantly stronger than a standard Emerald and there are no concerns about ethics in its sourcing.
