Embarassed by dark and thick arm hair and underarm shadow

Stacey, on July 9, 2013 at 12:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Well I am calling upon your help again! I am one of those lucky gals who has polycistic ovarian syndrome...and I have more than excessive and dark body hair.

Its very embarassing, I have learnt to just live with the dark arm hair...but I want to get rid of it for the wedding. I have never shaved, waxed, sugared my arms and would like your advice on it.

Aside from the flabby arms which I am working to get rid of. I have experienced dark underarm shadows for many many years (refuse to wear tank tops....and now my dress is strapless UGH!). I also have a very large area that needs to be shaved in my pits. Again only have shaved, never anything else. Any advice on what would be best and how to get rid of the dark ugly embarassing shadow.

Waxing vs shaving, etc etc. I get my face lasered...and well its not permanent for me, so that isn't an option at this point.

While I don't have this syndrome, I have fairly hairy arms as well.

I'm getting my arms sugared for the wedding. I have learned to live with it as well, but for one day, I don't want to feel self conscious whatsoever about it.

I'm actually going to get my arms done today, to try it out, see how my skin reacts. I normally get a Brazilian, so I am familiar with the process of sugaring. It will be interesting to see how the pain is, considering its in a different area of the body.

My advice to you is to go to someone with a good reputation. It pays to pay a little more for people who have more experience. Also when you go make your appointment, don't be afraid to ask questions. These girls have seen it ALL! Also, ask for someone who is gentle, some people tend to be a little rougher than others when sugaring.

I'm expecting it to be painful, but nothing that some Advil and a few glasses of wine can't fix!

My arm hair gets dark in the winter when I'm pale. During the summer it's blonde so it's not noticeable. In the winter, I bleach my arm hair. I get this stuff at CVS called Jolen. It's a cream. You put it on your arm hair for like ten minutes and voila...no more dark arm hair.

I've never tried it...but I'm sure it would work. It's only $5 so it's worth a shot! I'd do a test spot on another part of your body though and wait 24 hours to see what happens before putting it on your face.

I am a licensed medical aesthetician and in school for electrolysis. Some of my clients have pcos so I am very familiar with the syndrome. I would defiantly reccomend electrolysis for your hair problem if you have time for it. The thing about electrolysis is its the ONLY form of permanent hair removal, however it takes several treatments to get all the stages of hair growth. So if you have a year or so before your big day then I would reccomend finding a very good and knowledgable electrolysist. If you don't have a whole lot of time then defiantly waxing. I have been waxing myself and clients for years both face, underarms and arms. I hope this info helps! But hair is something that can be controlled you just have to do your research and go to the right person.

Wax. Do it now, make sure you don't have a reaction, and then do it again about 5 days before the wedding. I had never waxed my arms but did it before the wedding. Believe me it feels weird and to you will look weird when yoiu first do it.

If you are in love with it an need it then invest in electrolysis after the wedding

    Yay for Pcos!! /sarcasm

I am lucky enough to also have pcos and incredibly gross hairy arms. I say wax them if you don't have sensitive skin. I started waxing mine a few years ago and it was the best decision i've ever made (ok, that may be an exaggeration). Now, i just shave mine on a regular basis because i hate having to let the hair grow so long to wax again...but i feel 100% better about myself and no one makes stupid comments like they use to! Definitely wax!

not sure about the dark skin...maybe cover up?

I have PCOS as well. I get lasered for my face but did Nair for my chest and arms a couple of months ago to test it out and liked the results/reaction. I would never attempt it for a first time though just before the wedding. I also found out it makes me a little red and takes about 36 hours to go away and that was important to know.

I have dark underarms and my neck gets dark i was just looking into the the other day. Apply aloe vera gel to your armpit let sit for 20 minutes. then remove do it daily! Also get your pits waxed. I guess its supposed to remove the roots which could be causeing a lot of discoloration. I have not tried any of it yet. My cousin gets rid of her dark neck with cold cream. Dunno how it works but it does. Smiley smile
