Eloping... but "wedding" later ??

I'll start off by saying I'm a teacher. And in Florida.. teacher=poor lol. When I envisioned my wedding, I didn't see a huge fairytale, I saw myself and my husband surrounded by our friends and family with lots of food and drinks and music.. but our budget just isn't allowing that to happen. YET......

Has anyone eloped and then several months later actually had another "real wedding" ? How did you like it? Dislike it? What did family and friends think?

Can someone explain how planning is "less stressful " or, "more fun"if you've eloped beforehand? Maybe I don't get it because planning was never that stressful for me and my husband and was actually a lot of fun. I think planning actually would have felt less fun if we were already married because that excitement of, we're getting married!!!!, would be gone. We had our moments but overall it was like planning any other party. The things that momentarily stressed us out, like where to sit certain relatives, would have stressed us out regardless.

Yeah, this makes zero sense to me. I also feel like the stress wouldn’t be worth it if we were already married. Whenever I get stressed over the money or planning, I just think about how we’re getting freaking MARRIED with so many of our family and friends surrounding us. And I remember that it’s going to be so worth it.

My family lives in FL and my cousin got married in Vegas with only her parents there, then 6 months later she put on the wedding dress again and tried to recreate the reception in Miami, and that was weird to me. If you get married, then you're married. You can do a reception later on, but putting on the wedding dress is odd to me. But honestly, do what you want to do. Elope, have sex with your husband, and then throw a party! But i certainly wouldn't hide it from my friends and family.

If you get married, you don't have another @wedding" later. You are already MARRIEDz whether you did it at the courthouse, just the two of you, or in front of a couple of people. If you want to do something later, it is a CELEBRATION of your marriage. I wouldn't even call it a vow renewal if it was less than 10 years, and even that is pushing it. I'd say, elope now and throw a big celebration when you can afford. There is nothing wrong with this etiquette wise. And....it goes without saying, be honest with your guests and tell them you are married and now you want them to join you to celebrate!!!

I'm religious and was still offended by this. Blessing come in many forms, religious and not. But your comment basically implied anyone who doesn't get married like you are isnt blessed and that your current children arent either.

If you do this, just don’t lie about it. People
lie about it, get caught, and then won’t make it a priority to be at your wedding. I’ve seen it happen on multiple occasions, where the bride and groom get married “hide” it and then when the party comes around, people don’t make as much of an effort.

If you want to do that, go for it. I don’t personally see the point, since I think if I’m gonna spend money, I want it to truly be my wedding day, not a do over.

I don't think it's unheard of! My future brother in law eloped with his fiance, and they had a reception a couple months later at home.

Some of you just set out to criticize people anywhere you can. She was saying that she and him had sex and had kids before getting marrried and then things didn’t work out. She wants to do things right with this relationship and do things the way that she always wanted to do them and in her life this is the “RIGHT” way. This is coming from someone who had two kids (with the same man) on purpose and is now getting married 2 years later. Every relationship is different and everyone sees their religion differently. Same goes for weddings. Do what you want to do, don’t give a hoot what other have to say because everyone will have a different option based on their lives and this isn’t theirs. I think if you want to elope and then have your dream ceremony later that is what you should do. We wanted to get married on our dating anniversary, but that is not an option for the year we were going for, but we still wanted a big ceremony, food, and dancing so we are doing both and there is nothing wrong with that. We are not telling any about it because it isn’t there business and I rather not deal with the fuss (and yes I feel like this is the right decision based on how our relationship is with our families”. Consider all options but in the end the way you feel will determine if it is the right move. Good luck!

My husband and I eloped at city hall before his deployment last March. We are planning a renewal/celebration next April when he gets back from another deployment. Some of my family think it’s weird but I really couldn’t care less! It’s what we want to do and the majority of our friends and family are supportive and excited!!

I am considering doing the same. Did you end up doing this? Some people say it’s a “vow renewal” but not true. The church doesn’t recognize a non-church wedding so technically it would be two different types of ceremonies.

Fh& i considering going away alone, having vows done privately then returning and having our planned church/reception with family.
