Eloping... but "wedding" later ??

I'll start off by saying I'm a teacher. And in Florida.. teacher=poor lol. When I envisioned my wedding, I didn't see a huge fairytale, I saw myself and my husband surrounded by our friends and family with lots of food and drinks and music.. but our budget just isn't allowing that to happen. YET......

Has anyone eloped and then several months later actually had another "real wedding" ? How did you like it? Dislike it? What did family and friends think?

I understand what you’re asking. It’s a vow renewal the second time around.

We are thinking about doing this. I am sort of conflicted because I have always wanted a big wedding, but my fiance and I discussed going to the courthouse this coming March and having a wedding in March of 2020. We told everyone we would be having a wedding in March of 2020 so I am debating not telling anyone that we went to the courthouse this coming year.

Have you even sat down and figured out a budget for a wedding? Unless you have parent contribution or a nest egg you have been saving up, most people save up for their wedding for 1-2years!
Just getting married now/elope. Have a 5 yr anniversary party!

I understand that... that's why it says ANOTHER "real wedding".. meaning in addition, meaning plus one more. That's why it's in quotes.
Im meaning with more friends and more family.

So the vast majority of us on here who have had sex with our partners before marriage are not ‘truly blessed’? That’s a pretty rude thing to say.

I think this this whole thing is silly. Either elope and embrace it, or save up for the wedding you want and have it when you can afford it. And as others have said, don’t call it “another wedding” because it’s not another wedding, it’s a vow renewal.

I'm confused by this. So most of us who have had sex prior to marriage didn't do it the 'right' way? I'm not religious, so I had no qualms about having sex before marriage and I have no regrets whatsoever. For me personally, I did it the 'right' way. Each person can make this choice on their own, and I have no issue with someone deciding to wait if that's what they believe. But I do have an issue with implying that the majority of the people on here didn't do things right in your eyes. Each person gets to make this choice based on what is best for them.

Don't take my response to ONE person so personal. I am religious. My FH and I signed a contract with our church saying that during this time before our marriage, we won't have sex, we won't sleep in the same bed, we won't even kiss. What you and your FH do is your business. People on here are taking one thing I said so personal. Do what you do... do what makes you happy and I'll do the same 😏

You literally said that it was the RIGHT way to do things. Therefore implying that what others were doing was the wrong way. If you had worded this a bit differently, multiple people would not have picked up on it and there would have been no argument. That's cool that you are religious. I'm not at all. Your choice and my choice, no argument there at all. Just don't imply that your way is the best way. That's all. This wasn't an attack. I'm calmly telling you the way that it was interpreted especially when you bolded the word 'right'. I will do my own thing and you do you. Also what I said.

Congratulations to you all. My FH and I are getting married on 10/10/18. This will be a private ceremony that will be held on the beach before both of our mothers only. We will be holding a destination wedding on 10/10/2020 w family and friends. I do not see the point in being engaged for 2 years. I prefer to get the marriage out of the way so that planning will be less stressful. We havent shared this information with others and probably will not. Not too interested in what they may have to say in regards to how we chose to do things. More and more people are eloping first and celebrating later. I’m happy, he’s happy, that’s what counts. Getting married earlier than our ceremony date will allow us to focus on our marriage without the extras. We will send our invites next fall. Two years will also allow us to pay for a wedding without going into debt.
