Eloping but getting hair & makeup done without a trial first, what to expect? Never had my makeup done professionally

Shannon, on April 19, 2019 at 8:23 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 4
I’m eloping in 10 days. I booked an app to get my hair and makeup done, as we will have a photographer with us at the ceremony. When I made the app they didn’t ask me if I wanted to a trial, probably because I am eloping. I am getting both done in their salon, then traveling 30 mins from there to the ceremony location (outdoors). I don’t wear much makeup normally, usually primer, light foundation (BB cream), and brown gel. Rarely do I wear eye makeup because I have sensitive eyes. I definitely want a dewy, natural look. I’m not sure about false lashes, I have never worn them before. My skin tends to be dry, but oily in t-zone, and I have large pores. What can I expect for my makeup app? Should I bring pictures of makeup examples I like? What should I do to prep my skin?

Always bring a photo of what you want, you don't wanna give creative types free rein on your face. Make sure you have a good skin care routine and I would try to avoid makeup for the week leading up to your wedding if you cannot just ensure you wash it off thoroughly before bed. Exfoliate well the night before your wedding and use lots of moisturizer!

I would bring pictures of what you want. I would make sure the pictures look very close to what you want especially if you would have a hard time describing how you would want it different. If you are nervous about what it will look like, it may be worth doing a trial. I am getting my makeup done for both of my cermonies and I am not doing a trial for either.

Definitely bring pictures of what you want! They should ask you about your skin type and any concerns you have also. I also suggest that since you don't typically wear makeup, that perhaps you should ask for them to go a bit more on the natural side. Usually wedding makeup is done a bit more “dramatic” and bold looking because it translates much lighter looking in pictures. If you don't mind it for pictures, just prepare yourself that you may look a little different than you're used to. Ive heard of so many women crying and hating their makeup from their trials because they think they look terrible or like a clown, and it seems like it was mostly those who don't really wear makeup, if any at all. Try to have an open mind and relax and enjoy the experience. But definitely see if you can find any reviews or pictures of their work to make sure they can do what you want! Best of luck!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Shannon Smiley smile

I would definitely spend some time browsing Pinterest or somewhere else online and find a picture of the look you want for your makeup. Share this with the artist on the day to show how you want the end result to be. Having an inspo picture is really the best way to explain what it is you want. If it's a combination of a couple of photos, that's ok too!

In relation to prepping the skin, the days before a wedding is not a good time to go introducing any new regimes or products encase you have a reaction. I would advise you to continue on your skincare routine as normal and focus on minimizing breakouts by de-stressing.

Just 4 days left!!! Where are you eloping to?
