*EDITED* How do I let my guests know that my reception will have a plated supper?

Lacey, on January 7, 2014 at 7:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

At my reception, the supper will be served to the guests and I need help on how to word my RSVP card so guests will understand that the supper is sit-down and I will need to know exactly who is coming for place cards.

Any suggestions on how I can do this kindly? Thanks!

ETA: I meant plated. Smiley winking Sorry - I'm totally meaning where the food is brought to the guests NOT buffet. Yikes!

Lots of people do the ______of seats have been reserved for you. Then you fill in the blank with how many people are invited per family, i.e. John and Jane Smith would be 2 seats. The Smith Family might be 4 people, depending on the family.

I agree with Amy that it would be expected to be a sit down dinner. I think if it were NOT a sit down dinner you would have to let them know. But I put something like "dinner and dancing to follow immediately" at reception site on my invitation

I would get the hint if my RSVP card made me choose a food choice

If it were a buffet I wouldn't have to choose my food before hand.

IDK if your venue/caterer makes you turn in a final count for food options but even if they don't you can include that on there anyway so people will get the hint

    something like this.

Are you having menu choices? That is an easy way to signify it. Here are our RSVP cards.

Not all weddings are sit-down. It varies per region. A lot of weddings have buffet style food. Like you sometimes see in "Four Weddings" if you watch that.

You don't have to let guests know that it will be a sit down meal. You just have to include an RSVP card so they can indicate whether or not they are coming and select a meal choice if that is required by your venue.

I had to tell my caterer who was getting what so that they could serve the right dinner to each person.

    our RSVps were like this:

Kindly respond on or before August 1

    M________________________

    _____ persons will attend

Meal Choice (please put first name):

    beef_____________________________

    salmon___________________________

    pasta_______________________________

Ah well that's still sit down even if it's buffet. When people bring it to you it's called a plated diner

^^Oh okay thanks! I thought a sit down dinner and plated dinner were the same. Makes sense now. Maybe OP means "plated"

Gotcha Smiley winking didn't mean to go all banquet lingo gestapo! As I've not provided anything useful at all to this thread I'll just second what most of the other girls have mentioned.

Champagne... I need people to educate me! I'm young and dumb! Smiley winking You're the best - and you've definitely contributed to me!

I agree - menu options are a good idea. Not sure if we can work menu options.
