Dyeable shoes? Please, chime in!

Mrs. Boat, on November 16, 2010 at 3:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I have been considering dyeable shoes.

From those of you who had them for your wedding or have done reasearch, how did they pan out? Did the color bleed at all? Did you get them from a certain place online or did you go to an actual store and tried them on?

Did the color come out true to what you expected?

Your input is greatly appreciated, sisters Smiley smile

I'm thinking about getting them too... I've checked out DB and AA and both places have the colors I'm looking for... They do not bleed out at all.. it's profesionally done. when you going they have color swatches in the same matirial as the shoes for you to look at..

I looked into a place online and they want a swatch so that they can match it perfectly. I might get a pair from AA to match my dress, but didn't really look at their selection when I was in there before.

I have gotten them from Payless in the past, and they were a perfect match. They wil customize the colors to a fabric swatch. They also treat them with a sealant to keep the colors from running when they get wet.

But I'm not sure that all the Payless locations do it anymore.

I know David's Bridal will dye their shoes to match their colors- and the color is a perfect match. But I think you have to purchase your shoes from them...

I agree with Meghan, I think you have to buy your shoes from DB for them to dye them...

I was wondering that, Meghan. I have found some dyable shoes that I like, but I don't think DB carries them. I know they'll dye their shoes for $4 extra, so I may just have to go with what they have...

I have seen the "touch up" shoes, and they have some really cute styles, but I can't find an actual "4 walls and ceiling" kinda store that carries them Smiley sad

Keep in mind that even if the color is technically the exact same it will look different on different materials (this is not to say that it won't look good - just something to remember). If DB won't do it (if you buy them somewhere else), you can probably take them to your local cobbler (shoe repair shop) and they should be able to do it.

My dad is a cobbler and when my MOH got married he dyed all of our shoes (and they weren't even dyables - they were just leather shoes). I just gave him a swatch of my BM dress (from where it was hemmed) and he mixed colors to match it.

We did them for my gf's wedding years ago and they did bleed not alot but enough to make me not do them again... the color was a very deep purple thou so that could be why ... now mind you this was about 13 years ago so maybe they are better at it

I wore dyed shoes from DB as a bridesmaid for a friends wedding a couple years ago. They were a perfect match as far as color, but because her wedding was in Feb and we had had a snowstorm that day, it was impossible to not walk through the snow to get to my car after the reception. The dye didn't hold up too well to that, but they did make it through the ceremony & reception. When you get shoes dyed at DB they specifically tell you not to get them wet as they might bleed.

Maybe you already made up your mind after what dragonfly said, but I went to a cousin's wedding this summer and she had dyed shoes in a gorgeous blue color. I loved them! ...Until she took her shoes off between the ceremony and reception and her entire feet were blue... it took three days for the color to fade. Oh, and she didn't get married on a rainy day, nor did she get married near water. I believe it was just the sweat from her feet on a moderately warm day. I was planning on getting dyed shoes until I saw her feet!

I have had lots of shoes dyed. My girls all had dyed shoes at my wedding. When you get it done, you need to *request* the moisture sealant be put on them for any poisture. Otherwise, they WILL bleed. But, since I ahve always done that, and my girls did that, there was no bleeding at all on their shoes. The color was also a perfect match, and they wore the touch ups. LOVED them.

I have worn dyed shoes before in weddings (at least 3 times). The color wasn't the problem, I should have ordered them a half-size larger because the dying process made them shrink and they were uncomfortable during the wedding.

So I stopped by my local Payless today and they were super nice. They showed me their color swatches and all. I do have to go to a different store to try on the shoes (only selected stores actually carry the dyeable shoes but they all have swatches to show). This is the shoes' website. http://www.unforgettablemoments.com/

They look pertty standard. And the prices aren't ridiculous. Best part is: I can do the BOGO thing and get another pair half off (for my sister or mom) as a present Smiley smile

Their shipping and dyeing is free with the purchase of the shoe.

Good deal. Next up: going to try on the shoes this weekend Smiley smile
