Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica

Paige, on February 22, 2016 at 11:35 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 23

Hi everyone! FH and I have booked our honeymoon at Sandals Ochi Resort in Jamaica near Dunn's River Falls. We are interested in doing the excursion of climbing the waterfall, but we have heard mixed reviews about it. Have any of you been before? Is it worth the time?

We went there with a group of 12. It was a really awesome experience.

The only downfall was as you left you had to walk through a shopping village, the locals were very pushy. Just walk through, they do not let you just shop and instead try to force you to buy their wooden shit.

Yes! Definitely worth it. We climbed it when we were on a cruise when I was maybe 12 or so. It's very beautiful and a killer workout. It's very slippery though, so our tour all linked hands the whole way up.

I did it years ago and it was amazing i recommend water shoes too! We went in April and the water was freezing but it was hot as hell out. Also their is a little village of people when you get off the falls that are very pushy and try and sell you things... just keep walking and you'll be fine.

Awesome, awesome excursion. I've done it 5 times. Definitely bring water shoes (really expensive if you buy from there) and bring a water proof camera. Also, echoing what Kathryn said- when leaving keep walking and don't bother to stop to look at the souvenirs. You'll get pressured to buy something from everyone and it's overwhelming. Just say "no thank you" and keep moving. Have fun!!

I have done it, but that was like 15 years ago haha. We had a blast though! We took a boat that offered a snorkel excursion too. So we took the boat almost to the falls, stopped, snorkeled for about a half hour or so and then got to the falls. Fyi the water is cold! Our guide had us fall into a deep pool for a photo op. and our faces are hilarious. If I could do it again I totally would Smiley smile

Make sure you bring either water shoes, or a water proof hiking shoe.

Guys, I had never experienced anything like that. Like a total idiot I pulled out a wad of cash and it was on like donkey kong... They were swarming me, separated me from the rest of the group. It was crazy.

It was beautiful! Definitely bring water shoes and maybe a waterproof camera to take pictures. They are super pushy on the way out, just keep walking. I told H that a billion times and I still had to go back through to find him an drag him out! Totally worth it though.

We had a great time!! It was crowded when we were there but still a great experience. Be prepared to get fully wet. Don't bring extra stuff like cell phones/non-waterproof cameras. We actually some how managed to avoid the village on the way out, but heard that it was intense.

It's very fun but very touristy. The description of walking through the shops after the falls is spot on... just keep walking and don't let them push you too much. The waterfall itself was not scary or too difficult. We did hold hands at parts and had awesome guides that took video and would stop at different points along the way to cheer and get everyone pumped. We got the video for pretty cheap and it's a hilarious souvenir to watch. You will want to bring your own water shoes if you have them or you can borrow some cheap plastic ones... and also bring a little cash to tip the guides if you can. Overall it was worth it!
