Dry eyes, contacts, and a wedding...

Kimberly, on June 6, 2015 at 1:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

So I stopped wearing contacts about 4 years ago due to my eyes being extremely dry. This is partially due to my medication. Since getting engaged, I've been trying to decide if I really wanted to wear my glasses or not for the wedding and decided to try out contacts again. Hopefully this time around, it'll work! =)

Have you talked to your eye doctor about Restasis? There might even be a generic version now, but I was on it for a while to treat dry eyes. I basically stopped wearing contacts because I can't wear them for the amount of time I'm gone everyday, so I'm not on it anymore, but it worked pretty well.

I had punctum plugs (not sure of spelling) put in my tear ducts to help with dry eyes while wearing contacts. I don't wear them for other reasons now. My vision isn't that bad, so I don't plan on wearing either contacts or glasses on my wedding day.

I just went to an eye doctor for the first time in like 3 years today. She mentioned that there were prescription drops but that she doesnt like prescribing them too much because she would rather treat the problem rather then just using drops. But she mentioned taking omega fatty acids every day which are supposed to help dryness, and she gave me these daily contacts that are supposed to be really good for dry eyes to try out for the next couple weeks. Im going to go buy some of that fatty acid stuff and see if that helps!

My vision is really bad. I cannot see anything farther then 6 inches from my face clearly, lol

I went to the eye doctor this week for my bad dry eyes. I used to have awful vision until I got LASIK 7 years ago, and I used the daily contacts too. But in the last few years my dry eye has just gotten so bad. Omega fatty acids did nothing for me and I took them for about 6 months. I have been using single use vial artificial tears at least 5-6 times a day plus a night time ointment (by the way, this is the only thing that made my life bearable--I'm not sure about using them with contacts, but try the nighttime ointment if you haven't yet). Dry eyes are just awful.

I did get prescribed Restasis because I've tried everything over the counter I could and nothing helped. Unfortunately, at least according to my eye doctor, there's currently no "cure" for dry eye. We don't know what's causing my dry eye so the only thing we can do is treat the symptoms. If yours is related to your medication, have you talked to your prescribing doctor? There might be something else you can take. Just so you know, Restasis takes about 3 months to take full effect. So if you try the daily contacts and are still not happy, make sure you go back to your eye doctor with plenty of time before your wedding. And as of now there are no generic versions so it's pretty expensive.
