I use Mary Kay creme to powder foundation and then I do a layer of their concealer on top! That combination was recommended specifically to me when I had really bad acne and when I had (and still do have) some scarring from that. It covers the acne scars pretty completely, and I’m with you I HATE that cakey feeling! As long as you don’t go too heavy on the concealer it doesn’t feel cakey at all. Those products are made specifically to allow your skin to breathe.

I don’t wear primer and only a light foundation because I have ridiculously sensitive skin and only need light coverage.

I use Bare Minerals liquid foundation and their setting powder. A girl at Ulta picked it out for me. Maybe have a makeup counter girl find you something?

Thanks ya'll! Yeah, I'm going to Ulta and Sephora tomorrow to hopefully try some things out.

I love stuff from Ulta and Sephora, but in all honesty, one of my favorite foundations on the planet right now is Maybelline - the 24 hour wear one with full coverage (rectangular bottle, white cap.) It doesn't feel heavy, is TRUE full coverage but doesn't look like cake-face, and it stays on all day. I've worn it every day during this hot spell that passed through Chicago these last few weeks and it didn't budge, smudge or sweat off.

I'm not sure about high end stuff, but I know you can ask for samples at Sephora to try out before you make your final purchase! You can get 3 samples per visit I think

I'm a big fan of Urban Decay Naked foundation and Urban Decay Self-Adjusting Complexion Primer (apparently this primer isn't available anymore so I need to find a new primer lol).

I am obsessed with the Smashbox photo finish primer, it's amazing! Foundation wise, I'm a big fan of anything MAC!

Would you consider visiting a Sephora, or somewhere similar, and speaking with an assistant who could help you pick some product suitable to your skin type?

I’ve tried a few different primers but I actually always find my way back to the elf green primer! It helps even out any redness (which is what I need lol) and feels sooo light and comfortable. Over it I use the tarte shape tape, which usually works pretty well. I stocked up when it was on sale so I don’t really wanna try anything different until I run out of that. But the NYX setting spray makes a difference too! I didn’t think drugstore brand primer or setting spray could work so well but those are two of my favorite products!

Looks like elf or smashbox primer are most common! I'm definitely going to have to sample some foundations to see what I like best.
