Dress Storage before wedding!

Chloe, on March 28, 2021 at 4:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hello! I just said yes to my wedding dress yesterday it’s supposed to arrive early June of this year. My wedding date is not until August 27th 2022. I was looking for some tips on storage because I’m getting my dress so early. Has anyone had any issues storing theirs to early? I want my dress in the best condition obviously I’m nervous of it turning a different color or something. Thank you in advance.

My wedding was supposed to be July 2020, but we postponed to July 2022 due to COVID, so I've been storing my dress, and haven't had any issues so far. What I recommend is to lay it flat in a dark closet in its garment bag.

So sorry you had to postpone due to COVID that must be hard. Ahh thank you so much! Makes me so nervous to get it so early but I’m happy I’m not stressing out about it anymore other then storing it.

I got a special bag from the boutique- it helps keep it from yellowing. Ask the place where you purchased your dress.

Thanks! Postponing actually ended up being for the best for us, lol. Funny how things work out! Don't be nervous about getting your dress a little early, that's one more thing off the to-do list! It really shouldn't hurt it to store it for a year - from my understanding, it takes years for the color to yellow, so you should be fine, but it also may be worth checking out the special bag that Michelle suggested! You could hang up the dress too if space is a concern, but if you have room to lay it flat, that might be best so the weight of the dress doesn't stretch it out from hanging up. Congratulations on finding your dress!

I have room and like you said it’s one less thing to worry about lol! I’ll try both of those ideas! And yes it is so weird how things work out that seem to be the most terrible unheard of thing to happen! 🤣 Thank you so much for the help. And good luck with the rest of wedding planning! I hope your day turns out just how you imagine!

Our wedding was postponed from September 2020 to August 2021 and mines been hanging in the garmet bag in a dark closet. It's coming out soon to start the alteration process. You should be fine as long as you keep it in the supplied garmet bag and away from light. Wouldn't hurt to ask the salon where your purchased as well.

I have a pre-loved wedding dress that was used for a November 2019 wedding. I got the dress in April 2020 and have been storing it in its David’s Bridal bag (hanging) in my closet. The elopement is July 12, 2012, and the dress looks white and pristine (besides the minor pre-loved wear). My seamstress will be coming to see me in late April for my first fitting... so I took it out just this weekend... it’s just like when I picked it up.

I bought mine pretty early. I just kept it in the garmet bag the shop gave to me and keep it in a guest bedroom closet at my parents house so it's not exposed to sunlight at all.

Store your dress in a breathable garment bag in a climate controlled environment. Your bridal boutique will likely give you a bag with a woven nylon like material that is a water resistant/waterproof breathable material and will prevent your dress from becoming a victim of spills but also allow it to breathe so it doesn't get musty.

I bought a pre-loved dress so it was already at least a couple years old when I got it. I stored it that way in our bedroom closet for about 7 months before our wedding turned elopement last year, and its now back in the bag after having been worn for just a couple hours for our elopement. I'm planning to wear it for our celebration this year (hopefully). I've kept it in my bedroom closet (small single hanger closet, house has AC/heat) and have had no issues.

I thought I should store mine flat since it's a huge heavy ballgown which arrived in October last year and our wedding isn't until September this year, but my alterations lady told me it's best to store it inside it's bag, hung from the loops inside the dress (NOT the actual dress straps). It's been fine (and I've taken it out a few times to check!) I'd say as long as it's getting some circulation and isn't anywhere damp or in direct sunlight you should be ok!

Had my dress since Dec 2018 keep dress in a garment bag in closet at my dads house away from smoke or animals then as the wedding got closer we moved it to my grandparents house that was close to the venue. My dress stayed in the bag and in closet from Feb 2020 until March 19 2021 ( dang covid) It came out of the bag maybe 5 times to ensure it still fit And make sure no discoloration was happening 🥰

If opted for the cloth dress bag it would be fine that is what mine was in for basically 2 years, I’m sure the plastic bag would be good to. My dress was also David’s bridal

I stored mine in a garment bag at the back of my closet. I purchased my dress February 2020 and our big wedding is now pushed back to October 2021. Every now and then I open it and put it on, it hasn't discolored or anything.

Davids bridal is selling a garmet bag for 10 dollars and I love them I recommend putting it in a garmet bag and putting it in your closet and try not to take it out of the bag so it doesn't yellow
