Dress code

Kerri, on February 10, 2020 at 9:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
I need help! I am trying to figure out a good way to politely let people know that we would like them to wear Renaissance attire to our renaissance themed wedding. We already know that not everyone will join us in the fun of dressing up but we want to encourage as many of our guests as we can to dress up.

I am not sure what the best wording would be so I do not upset anyone. I know this is our day but we want everything to work with as little stress as possible.

Attire: it is requested (but not required) that you join our theme by dressing up in Renaissance attire!

Honestly, I wouldn't try to do this. It's quite rare that people have Renaissance attire lying around and pressuring people (even if you just say that it's suggested) to buy elaborate outfits for your wedding isn't a good idea. It's fine if you have your invites, save the dates, and website reflect your theme, but please don't ask your closest friend and family to purchase specific only-wear-once ensembles just to complete a vision.

That is the thing you can literally get this attire for less than most dresses if it were a formal dress code. My wedding dress was $30.00 and it is absolutely stunning.

I like the wording of the first poster. You state that the attire is cheap which is great. However, the clothing is not practical for most people. I am someone who would rather drop $150 on a nice dress versus $30 on a dress that will never be worn again. People need an out on this one.

If you wish to join in on the theme, you may do so by wearing Renaissance attire.

I like this one! No matter the cost, I can't see myself buying Renaissance attire for a one-time wear, and this wording seems the most "guest friendly".
