Dress alterations help!!

Jen, on September 17, 2021 at 2:47 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Anyone have their dress lined?? My dress is illusion lace on the entire top. I loved it but wasn’t going to get it because I am larger chested and an older bride. I was uncomfortable with the cups it came with only covering 1/2 of my boobs. I was told by the stylist at dress appointment last year that they could add larger cups to lift, cover and separate and all would be well. I went to my fitting today and was still not pleased with the amount of boob showing even with the larger cups offered to me. I am 25 days away from my wedding so my only option is to have it lined. I don’t have time to order lace or anything else. I know it changes it into a completely different dress. I am not blind. It’s just that for the last year I envisioned it one way and now I have to come to terms with the new way. I do not hate it but again it’s a lot to accept that it’s completely different now.

I could just use some positive words that it still look good lined. That I don’t need to run out and buy something off the rack to replace it. Keep in mind this is a mock up liner, a rough draft with a piece of scrap fabric that is pinned and a bit crooked. The actually liner will be more fitted, straight and in more of a sweetheart style with a tiny bit of a “V” plunge. I will be keeping the sleeves, sides, top and back of dress unlined.
Thank you ladies! Just feeling a bit misled and need some support. 💖
Please don’t say to keep it the original way. I am not comfortable doing so.

I think it's a beautiful dress! to start off, I think it looks great unlined but toootally get that you might not feel comfortable showing that much off at a wedding, surrounded by you in-laws and family! As a similarly blessed lady, I hear you!

It looks gorgeous lined. I might make it just a teensy, tiny bit lower than it is now, but the lining honestly looks like it was always there! and it's only pinned in. Imagine how good it will look when it's finished!

Thank you!! Yes I get that some may love to show off more but I’m just not comfortable with it. I am eloping so no one but us will be there but I don’t want photos with my boobs out. I was comfortable when they told me the sewn in cups would lift and separate, which they did not. And I honestly feel like I have a pair of butt cheeks on my chest. 😆 Here’s another photo from after the second one I posted, which was pre larger cups. She was showing me without cups and with and honestly they both didn’t do me any favors. I was still not covered with the larger cup! Also all I could see was a giant white circle (the cup) when I stared at the mirror. Not to mention no support given and the dress is backless so I can’t wear a bra.

Yes I told her lower for the fabric and deeper for the “V” hopefully as you stated it will look amazing! She said any further alterations will have to be done while I wait if needed because I have to take my dress home with me next time.

I hope it's not inappropriate to say that they do have an amazing shape - but I totally hear you, it is a lot of boob, haha!

I think it is going to look lovely when it's done, and so much more classic and timeless than the way it is now.

Lol! You’re totally fine…thank you! 😆 I hate them so much and if I wasn’t so scared to have surgery I would have had them reduced long ago. I literally have severe arthritis in my neck/back from them!

Thank you fir your kind words on the dress. I hope you are right. I’ve been stressed all day about this now. 😢

I think the lined dress looks great! I would have never known that isn’t how the dress was originally made!

I think the dress looks great both ways! However, just a suggestion… could you have them do a mock up of the lining in nude to match your skin tone? Then it would still appear to be an allusion top, while still providing the coverage you want.

Your dress is gorgeous!! I think it looks better lined—like you, without the lining my eyes go straight to the cups. I think it would look great though if the lining followed the lace on the front of the dress for a really deep v. Regardless of how it’s lined, it looks amazing and no one will know that it’s been altered to have lining once it’s done.

You're definitely blessed in the chest Smiley laugh

I think if you're uncomfortable with the cleavage, it looks beautiful lined. I think it would also be more comfortable, since you won't have to constantly be adjusting yourself and worrying about nip slip/falling out.

Oh it is gorgeous!!! I agree that without the lining, my eyes go straight to the white circles, which don't look natural, flowing, and graceful like the rest of the dress. I also would have never guessed that it was originally unlined, and I (like many people on this site) look at a lot of wedding dresses!!!

Sadly, no. They require me to bring my own fabric and I just don’t have the time to find any and bring it in. I already have to pay a rush fee for it as is. 😢

I do too I was thinking that last night while NOT sleeping!! 🙄😆 I think I’ll call when they open and see if I can talk to someone to make the lining a little lower and the plunge and little more deep. Thank you!!
