Double Wedding

Nancy, on March 29, 2017 at 12:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

I read about Double Weddings in my etiquette book. I wonder if anyone ever has one? I bet these are left over from a bygone era.

Double wedding as in two couples getting married at the same time?

My sister's best friend and BM got married in a triple wedding with her two sisters, so IMO, its not unheard of.

I think this was pretty common during WW1 as the only couple I know who did this was my great grandparents.

I imagine planning this has a lot of ups and downs. A triple wedding? wow.

Actually, one of the wedding venues we looked at hosted a double wedding for identical twins just a few years ago.

My dentist had a double wedding with her sister like 10 years ago. I know it would save a lot of money but I want my spotlight!

I have had like two people ever ask me about this but neither panned out. I'd think that each couple would want their own day....

LB how did the triple wedding work? Do they say thier vows all at the same time or did each couple take turns? I'm genuinely curious!

Me too. I bet this might have been written up in the paper?

Any way we could archive it?

I have two sets of uncles/aunts that did a dual wedding. On Valentine's day no less (cheesy much?) Lol but that was 20ish years ago and they're all still happily married so obviously it worked for them! I couldn't do it though haha

In the case of the double wedding that I heard about at one of the venues, they had two separate ceremonies back-to-back and two separate cocktail hours, then all the guests went into one combined reception.

My avatar is from a double wedding -- two best friends married two best friends. It was small, casual, and not a first wedding for any of them. It did take a bit of logistical planning. I had each person say their vows and each couple exchange their rings. I alternated between the two couples so one couple was not always 'second.' I also included the unity sand celebration for each couple.

More recently, I did a group vow renewal -- 5 couples representing 3 generations of one family. That I did more simultaneously.

The first thing I thought of was the Brady Bunch girls as well!

I would think it would take a lot of planning and compromise, deciding which parts of your wedding you feel strongly about and which ones you don't necessarily agree with but would be willing to allow.
