DOUBLE BOOKED MY RECEPTION VENUE!!!!

Jenn, on July 12, 2010 at 1:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

So my wedding is over a year away 9/10/11 and the manager from our venue just called and said she wanted to apologize. Of course I was so confused bc I had no idea what she was talking about and she then proceeded to say the venue was double booked and we would have to move our date. So I'm not moving my date but I'm so angry...I had my heart set on that place for years now...now its back to square 1

OMG!! Like Michelle said, why should you have to move your date?! I'd be sure to ask who booked first, and maybe even ask them to prove it...I'd be so mad! UGH!

Assuming you have a signed contract, the venue can't just cancel on you. There should be some monetary reimbursement or other cancellation clauses in your contract.

UH OH! IF they have date available that works are you able and willing to change it? Or perhaps that date means something to you guys... There is only one hall where I live that fits all the guests for any wedding, so it gets booked fast, a friend of mine and his FW had booked thefirst weekend of July, which is usually the smae weekend the grads have their thing, but they didn't book it and the lady fromthe hall called and asked if they ciuld change the date, and he said no, we've sent out invites already, the grad class was really upset with her for something THEY failed to do! not the exact smae situation, but it happens to the best of us!

That really sucks. Try to find out who booked and paid a deposit for the place first, you or the other people. If you did then they'll have to tell the other people that they'll have to find something else.

The way the manager explained it, we were the second booking but do to lack of orgainization they misplaced the first couple's information. So we were the one's that had to start over and there is no way I'm staying with them. The manager kept saying that the situation was being taken care of.

In all I'm trying to be positive and I keep telling myself at least I have a year to find something and not a couple days. So Thank God for that!

So did you put down a deposit, and did they try to do anything to make things easier for you? I would be putting up a fuss!

@Future Mrs. Johnson, there's nothing I can do about it and the other couple have to right so no I'm not happy about it but everything happens for a reason...don't get me wrong I am really upset but I'm just greatful it did happen now and not any later. If this is the worse thing that happens, then that would be wonderful.

@Brian C., No I'm not loosing money. The manager said she would mail me a check no later than Wednesday. I agree 100% the other couple were first so yes they should get the venue, its just unforunate. As soon as I thought I could cross something off the check list, I was wrong.

That is the worst! We had something similar happened, I called on a Tuesday and they said the venue was available on our date but they couldn't meet with us to sign the contract and put down the deposit until Saturday. We got there Saturday and they said that someone had called the previous evening and booked it for our date - what? You said we couldn't book it over the phone! They waffled about how the other party was from out of state and couldn't come in to see it but were willing to put down the deposit anyway, whereas often people come in to see the site and then don't book, so they had to go with the sure thing. It was so infuriating, when you've already made plans and then feel like you've been stabbed in the back.

Geez all sorts of bad news out there! Sorry to hear about this happening to you though! We just found out that we need a new photographer because ours ran off with our money :-S. So now i'm in the process of e-mailing all our vendors for a much needed vendor check to put my nerves at ease.

You're being very calm and rational, good for you! I'd be a basket case lol. I'm glad your taking everything in stride, and I agree- even if they can give you a different date, if they lose something as important as someone's info, then who knows what else they'll screw up!

I would still make a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It is very unprofessional.

You know what though? If they lost this other couple's info, what's to say they won't be just as disorganized about other details? I mean, that's kind of a BIG FRIGGIN DEAL to misplace! I say good riddance...maybe the place is great, but if they don't have their sh!t together enough to know when not to double book a date, you don't want to be worrying that they won't screw you over in some other creative way much closer to the date.
