Dominos Pizza Catering?

Would it be tacky to have Dominos pizza delivered for the reception dinner? Hear me out. FH and I are young college students on a very tight budget. We’re having around 85 guests, for our small, rustic, (pretty much family only) wedding. We saw that Dominos caters for weddings, bringing more pizza trip after trip, to make sure hot pizza is served to guests. It would cost roughly $500 according to their quote. This is the cheapest I’ve seen catering. Please tell me it’s not tacky 😂 we could display it nicely, like in the photo. We would also have a salad bar and a dessert table.

I love pizza. I would be completely on board for pizza. You may want to look into a local place or a nicer place though.

I love pizza but can't stand Dominos. I likely would leave your wedding early and hungry to go find something else to eat.

Pizza, yes. Dominos, no. I think even a very casual wedding (one wear itd be ok to show up in jeans) ahould have nicer food than dominos. I do think a wood fired pizza truck is an awesome idea though!

I would not be happy if I went to a wedding and was served Domino's. I think it is inappropriate. Cut your guest list. Find an Italian place to cater.

I went to a wedding where Moe's catered and it went well. I also considered Mellow Mushroom for my own wedding. I think to each his own. I wouldn't be upset at pizza from Domino's at a wedding.

Pizza yes, Dominoes, no. We cut our guest list from 110 to 50 due to budget restraints. Wood fired pizza with salads, yes, Dominoes reminds me of being kinda drunk in college and having pizza delivered. Cut your guest list, move up to BBQ, Italian, Mexican.

    Hard pass.

Haha yes! Dominos definitely reminds me of drunk food delivery, NOT a wedding reception.

You know your guests and you know what would be appropriate within your circle. I've been to weddings that had different types of food options that were different from your usual catered fair and it was fine.

It's perfectly fine to serve Dominos. If you were here saying you were going to self-cater, everyone on here would be suggesting to at least serve Italian (pizza) or BBQ.

Do what you please. As long as you're not cooking it yourself, I see no problem with it.

If you put pizza out like in those pictures, it's going to be stone cold in minutes, regardless of how many delivery trips they make.

Dominos tastes like cardboard even when it's fresh. I would absolutely not eat it cold. And yes honestly I would expect to be hosted better at a wedding.

Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find a better quality pizza option that's still affordable.

The photo of this wedding pizza bar is adorable! Fun idea. I agree with folks here: choose a gourmet or other brand of pizza, offer a green salad and maybe a pasta dish for people who don't like pizza.

By Italian we usually mean (or at least I mean) pastas with different sauces, salads and breadsticks.

Sounds like a 50/50 split, OP - know your crowd and you will make the right choice!!

I'm not a fan of Domino's but love pizza. I would make sure all your guests can/do eat pizza. A side salad doesn't count as an alternative meal choice. You need to have an additional meal that people can choose if they don't want pizza.

Very few people, unless they have celiac, realize that something being labeled as GF nowadays means very very little. I would say 90% of the GF food you get out isn't actually free from major cross contamination, ESPECIALLY with everyone using gluten free as their fad diet. It was so much easier 10 years ago...

Anyway, if they had the gluten free pizza option for you, that should have been them thinking about you. I've been served a portobello mushroom with like 3 pieces of broccoli as the gluten free option at super fancy sit down weddings as well which would be no more filling than a side salad. I always have a protein bar on me a literally any function for this exact reason. It is no ones job but mine to make sure I have food to eat.

I think the pizza sounds like a fun idea if that fits your personality and mood you want for the day. I wouldn't pretend like the wedding was going to be super fancy and then serve pizza, but I also wouldn't do that and serve BBQ or cheap Italian as others are suggesting either (those seem no fancier or more "wedding food" like to me). Be you and have a blast!
