Dominos Pizza Catering?

Faith, on April 25, 2018 at 12:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 62
Would it be tacky to have Dominos pizza delivered for the reception dinner? Hear me out. FH and I are young college students on a very tight budget. We’re having around 85 guests, for our small, rustic, (pretty much family only) wedding. We saw that Dominos caters for weddings, bringing more pizza trip after trip, to make sure hot pizza is served to guests. It would cost roughly $500 according to their quote. This is the cheapest I’ve seen catering. Please tell me it’s not tacky 😂 we could display it nicely, like in the photo. We would also have a salad bar and a dessert table.

I would cut the guest list to a number you can afford to host with more than just fast food. IMO this would be equivalent to placing happy meals in front of each guest.

I have to agree with this.

I love pizza! Can you find a caterer who is willing to do pizza? Also, a few other options like a pasta for those who don't care for pizza? The pizza will get cold quickly when it's just in the boxes like that.

FWIW, FH and I will be a year out of college when we wed and we have found a caterer with delicious food in our budget. It may take some more searching, but I know there's one out there for you!

It’s family only, so I can’t really just cut out half the family.

Half of my family and his family grew up in east Africa on the mission field, so we’d count happy meals as a blessing! We’re not picky.

I love pizza! But not at a wedding. I’d be pretty disappointed to get there and not have a whole regular sit down meal.

I had a guest list of 300 that was family and managed to cut out guests to get it to 80. You can always cut your guest list. Consider cutting budget elsewhere to make sure you are treating your guests welll (cut out videographer, cut down photography package, choose a cheaper gown, not having a bridal party at all, reducing your bar down to a modified open bar [a few beer options, a few wines, and maybe a cocktail or two], cut out transportation (just drive your own cars), cut down floral budget, etc)

Honestly, fast food pizza isn't an appropriate dinner for a wedding IMO.

I'm not sure I would trust dominos for such an important event and large group. If you like the pizza idea, what about a wood-fired pizza food truck? They can fire up gourmet pies and serve them hot to your guests, sort of like in the set-up from your picture. Good luck!!

Half my family grew up in the mountain areas of Puerto Rico and grew up in extreme poverty. Weddings are a luxury item and if you are that tight on a budget that meals are a blessing I'd consider taking a look at your budgeting to maybe elope so you aren't splurging on a huge unnecessary luxury item when food is seemingly scarce.

Have you looked into a local Italian or BBQ place? Agree with others, Dominos makes me sick. It shouldn't even really be considered pizza. Maybe you could find a local Italian place that can do nice gourmet pizzas along with some other dishes...

I don't think this is tacky! If you have it set up nicely like in the picture and have salad and dessert that is plenty, I'm only spending around $400ish to feed roughly 60 people from a local restaurant that caters and the food is soo good! As long as there is enough food to go around, you should be good!

Your wedding, your day do what fits you guys

We are not having a fancy sit down, we're very laid back so doing buffet style bbq, works for us.

    Have fun with it!

Hmm...well we went to a wedding a couple years ago and they served dominoes. It was a super low key wedding (which we weren't expecting based off of the invitation and just knowing them), but the pizza fit with the casualness of it. I mean they had beer pong in the middle of the reception hall....I look back and think well it was their wedding and it's what they wanted good for them. This may not apply to your family, but I can't have gluten and even though dominoes has a GF pizza it's not 100% safe for celiacs so I can't eat it. As a guest, we drove an hour, brought a nice gift and you serve me a side salad? The world doesn't revolve around me and my health issues, but dang a side salad! Needless to say we left early so I could go get some real food. We came, we supported, we were improperly hosted (in my opinion) and we left. We are still good friends with them, but now we know to eat before one of their parties Smiley winking I would def. rethink the dominoes idea.

I've heard of people having pizza for their reception, but it's always something a little nicer than Dominos. Are there any local places that do more "gourmet" style pizzas? Usually when I get Dominos it's super greasy and has that "fast-food" pizza taste.

If you go with Dominos, I wouldn't tell anyone where it's from.

Yes it would be tacky to serve Dominos. The picture you posted shows gourmet wood fired pizzas. Could you look into getting a wood fired pizza truck to come instead? Or postpone the wedding until you can properly host your guests.

I would not be disappointed if I walked into a wedding where they were serving pizza lol that's just my honest opinion.

Is it suited or customary for a wedding? Obviously not. But I know it's a crowd pleaser!

May I recommend Italian or artisan style pizza? I feel like Domino's resembles too much of a fast food option, whereas artisan style pizza is a step above. Just a thought.

Also, another thing to consider is some people don't care for Dominos. While I'll eat any fast food pizza, my FH would rather eat nothing at all before he'll eat Dominos. He prefers Pizza Hut or Papa John's. Having a caterer do the pizza would prevent that issue for anyone who prefers one place to another.

This is a definite know your crowd moment. If you're family is alright with it then go for it. I would try to at least have another option just in case. Not everyone loves pizza.
