Dollar Dash??

Mrs. Nicole, on June 3, 2015 at 7:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 47

On my way to work, there was the topic on a Detroit radio station about the tackiness of dollar dances which made me happy haha because they were talking about how awkward it is for guests, have the wedding you can afford, and your wedding is not a fundraiser.

Someone called and said they had to watch a "Dollar Dash" in which during dinner, they were all asked to hold cash up, and the bride and groom had 60 seconds to sprint around the room yanking cash from their guests hands...

Another person boasted that they had two buckets, and guests were to put money in them if they were a U of M or MSU fan and guests got bragging rights if their team had the most money. She totally got blasted on air lol.

Anybody hear of anything like this? It was news to me. Besides the dollar dance, money tree, and honeymoon jar, what other tacky money grabbing schemes have you seen at a wedding?

I think it's all tacky, every person in my family has done the money dance before and I'm breaking the tradition.

Dollar dash wtf? I didn't think anything could be worse than a dollar dance, but a "dash" takes the cake.

Oh of course it's all tacky! I was just surprised/happy to see that a radio station was putting people on blast for doing it haha.

One guy suggested that you charge people for knife and fork or have an open bar and make them pay for their glass if you're going to be that person that does the dollar dance. I thought that was pretty funny!

OMG!!! Dollar dash absolutely takes the cake. Who sprints across the room in a wedding dress hell I'm just hoping not to trip walking in mine. This is getting out of hand.

LOL! Love Mojo in the Morning! I thought about WW when I heard it!

Spike's idea of selling glasses for 19.95 at the open bar with credit cards accepted was my favorite.

The part about sleeping with the bride and / or groom for cash not so much Smiley smile

I guess with the dollar dance some people can kinda pull it off as "tradition" (still tacky). But where the hell did a dash come in? Or put money in a bucket to win "who has the most fans"??

Wow.... a dollar dash.... I just can't haha on a side note though, we are doing a dollar dance as it is a regional tradition (just like our silly cookie table) so guests expect it.... I would do it for free quite frankly. It's not about getting a few extra $1 bills but about getting that time to do the polka with each and every guest while they all build a circle around you for your groom to get through to whisk you away LOL. I do understand how it seems tacky though and when I really think about it I'm like hmmm.... it is kind of odd but again a tradition that I am keeping Smiley smile

FH received a wedding invite in which we would be charged an admission fee (they didn't want to pay for their guests entry into the zoo, and since they wanted to hold the wedding during normal business hours, the zoo required that each guest be paid for), and on the RSVP card the meal price was listed next to each selection, making it appear that we would also be expected to cover the price of our own meals. To top it all off they had some terrible poem about how boxed gifts weren't needed buy they did have a money tree. Needless to say we checked no on the RSVP and sent a card.

Haha yes Tina! Usually I listen to 101.1 in the morning, but I switched over to 95.5 at the perfect moment during a commercial today.

And I'm not even going to touch the justification of that dollar dance with a ten foot pole.

    And OMG Jaklyn, for real?!

@Nicole yup. It was clearly a gift grab though. She hadn't talked to FH in about 5 years other than the random Facebook message. At one point she asked him for our address for "Christmas cards and such". We never got that Christmas card but we sure as hell got an invite to the tackiest wedding.

Is etiquette being murdered by degrees? The Dollar Dash? Can you picture this? A bride, in her very expensive, strapless gown (one she's constantly pulling up while she's dancing because she's afraid of slippage and exposure) is going to take off her four inch heels, position herself at the starting line, and when the DJ shouts "Go!", she going to start frantically running around at breakneck speed circling guest tables while reaching for dollars bills -- and this is after she's had a few celebratory drinks. Of course, some drunk idiot is going to wave his dollar bill around making it tough for the bride to grab. I cannot even picture this game of "Humiliate the Bride". The possibility of wardrobe malfunctions aside, I wouldn't think any bride would want to play road runner for the entertainment of her guests. This is a terrible idea and I hope it dies a quick death.

Is there anywhere else that I can do a dollar dash?? Its tacky for a wedding that you are hosting but it still sounds like a blast. I've always wanted to go on a 60 second shopping spree thing too. Sounds like a fun rush.

    Christine, right?

It sounds like those game shows where you stand in the booth with cash flying all around you and you have to see how much cash you can keep a hold of until the timer runs out. That would be cool pretty much anywhere else but a wedding.
