Doing your own engagement photos??

Candice, on January 24, 2010 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

FH and I decided that we were going to have either my mom or sister take our engagement photos with my camera. Any advise on what poses to do or how to make them look professionally done??? Is taking their own engagement photos??? Thanks =]

You can look at my profile Smiley smile We did ours. A friend of the family with a cool camera did it,and she just pointed and shot Smiley smile We had fun with the outfits and had some props we got at dollar tree! Just find cute places around town you want to get the pics done at; a fountain, a park, a cool building. Also, have the person taking the pics tilt the camera different ways (like on my profile pic) and some pics will come out really cool. As for poses... just be yourselves! We had fun, and that's what's important. You want to be as natural as you can that way the pics don't come out looking "stiff".

    Good luck!

Unless your mom or sister have a knack for this type of thing, I would go to a pro. Most photographers offer a good deal or even free engagement session when you book them. At the bare minimum I would go to JC Penny's, you can get coupons online and they do a nice job. Anyone that has had professional photos done has heard the photograher say..."turn your head just a little"..."look down just a bit"..."put your hand here"...etc. There's a reason they are called pros! They have the training and experience to know how to capture the best possible images.

I think outdoor photos can be done very nicely by yourself. no props to worry about and they look natural not staged. A friend of the family is taking ours. We are doing all outdoor poses in a field, in the woods, and at a local waterfall.

See the thing is, it is all snow outside. So we would have to do them inside. But thank you for the advise. I'll have to check out JC Penneys. Maybe even Walmart, I don't know if they do pictures anymore.

Hey DANYALLEN your pictures came out really cool!

I think if you're doing it yourself find some cools sites and use the snow! Do some snow angels or something! And if you don't want to be bundled up in the pictures go out in some lighter clothes take some cute pics then run back inside! Just have fun and kiss a lot and look in each others eyes and just play!

Hey there! We did our own, my mom took them. I would reccommend using this easy program that's free from google called Picasa 3, unless you're good with Photoshop and have it already! Picasa is super easy and free and it helps spice up your picturesSmiley smile That's what I used for ours...I don't have a lot posted but in my pics there our save the date, which is composed of pics my mom took of us. Good luck!

My MOH is doing mine with her mom's pro camera. I've done a lot of modeling work before so I can pretty much direct myself and FH.

Have you already picked your location? After that, it's just a breeze. What I did was I picked Savannah GA, and looked up pictures of the park that I visited last time I was there. Closed my eyes, and imagined myself and FH in those pictures. I've already got maybe 100 shots listed in my brain that I wanna get.

Honestly, there is more to a photograph looking 'professional' than just the poses. We've got experience not only in posing people, but creating the right depth of field (most snapshots have everything in the photo in focus, where as professional equipment can isolate the subject), not to mention processing experience. I am also a photographer who does free engagements with all my wedding packages. I feel like it's important to build a relationship with my clients and get to know them, their likes and dislikes and a feel for what they want with their photos. Good luck in whatever you choose to do!
