Doing own makeup for wedding, rarely uses makeup.

Mayumi, on April 2, 2022 at 2:10 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 10
I’m doing my own make up for my wedding. I only wear make up for interviews and events. So I’m pretty inexperienced (using make only a couple times a year) but I was wondering if these items will be good enough for a wedding makeup look? 1) complete makeup brush set 2) beauty blender 3) complete face wash routine for dry skin 4) moisturizer 5) primer 6) 2 different shades of foundation from the same brand 7) 2 different shades of concealer from the same brand 8) lip stain 9) highlighter 10) blush 11) waterproof mascara 12) waterproof eyeliner 13) setting spray

Also any makeup suggestions or how to properly do makeup look would be appreciate it.
My face doesn’t look good with contour, so that’s why contour items aren’t in the list. Smiley smile

Hi! I would add translucent powder, lip primer, lip liner and some products for your eyebrows such as…brow gel, eyebrow pencil or brow tint or Pomade.. also are you planning to do eyeshadow? If so consider adding some sort of pallet to your list as well as eyelid primer. This is all depending on the look you are going for.

I recommend watching YouTube for tips or if you have some room in your budget you can contact make up artists in your area and have them do a one on one with you so you feel good about applying on the day of. Depending on where your location is… MUA sometimes offer one on ones for like $50-$100… they help you apply a full face using your own products.

I would be remised if I didn’t say…I am sure when you do your own make up it comes out great! However, since you are describing yourself as “inexperienced” with make up..I strongly encourage you to consider hiring a professional for your big day! That way you are confident they have everything you will need, your make up will stay put, it will look good in pictures, its blended etc. which ever you decide you will look lovely! Good luck!

I was thinking about hiring a professional but seeing how much it would cost extra in travel fees and how I don’t have bridesmaids made it so I really couldn’t. Ones I was interested in had minimum of three people needing to get their makeup done. I will also be the main person setting up the wedding. So I can’t spend a lot of time doing my makeup.

I will look at translucent powder and never even heard of lip primer haha so I will check that out too and I was trying to find a lip liner but i have to do a bit more digging to find one for the lipstick I picked I picked a nude orange color. Also I think I should be good for brows. I have dark brown bushy brows. I’m not doing eyeshadow for my makeup look. Since I don’t usually look good with eyeshadow on vs it without it.
Thank you so much for your comment. Smiley smile

Ask your local Facebook wedding community for referrals as well as checking out Instagram and Google. The time and money spent on buying products and doing the tutorials from YouTube will cost you more than going with a professional. Especially if you won’t use the products again and they do have a very short shelf life. Also, a professional will have high quality products designed for high definition photography, to avoid looking washed out,
which cost you a lot of money to buy yourself.

Watch Samantha Ravndahls video "the makeup I wore on my wedding" video on youtube. She is a professional makeup artist and did a beautiful natural look for her own wedding. It'll help you figure out what's best for you. I would also consider at least a little contour or bronzer for photos. You'll need to go a little heavier than normal for professional photography so your face doesnt look flat and keeps dimension.

I'm not the most knowledgeable about certain makeup types/ techniques either, let alone for a big event/ pictures, so I'm planning to hire someone. Is there any chance your mom, FMIL, friends, or any sister(s)/ future sister(s)-in-law would want to get their makeup done? They could help you meet the 3-person minimum.

If you're fully committed to doing your own makeup, I'd check out YouTube for someone who has similar features to you (skin tone/ type, hair color, eye color, etc.). That way you can learn techniques and any products you might consider buying along the way would at least be close to what colors/ shades would work for you too.

I can’t met the minimum, everyone won’t be their until the wedding starts so it will be to late. I’ve purchase the makeup already, ones where they have been good reviews. I just get confused cause every makeup style and tips are so different. I’m gonna try to copy the style I liked from the artist that had the 3 person minimum. They do a lot of Asians. I really like how they do Asian faces. A lot less dark and more lighter colors without having so much contour and eyeshadow, no fake lashes. I haven’t found much makeup artists in my area that do make up styles I liked. Only a couple but I can’t make the minimum requirements for both.

I will try to find some videos. ^ w ^Thank you so much for your comment.

I highly recommend a setting spray to use once your makeup is finished. It helps seal it all in and makes sure everything stays on for much longer.

I’m doing my own makeup too! I don’t really wear makeup often, only when I need to. I’ve been watching @shelbyannbell on TikTok. She’s a wedding makeup artist and she makes videos showing you how to do your own makeup for your wedding. She includes the names of the products and has different videos based on different wedding makeup looks. I’ve even saved some of her videos to my camera roll so that I can use them on my wedding day. Sometimes doing your own makeup is the best way to go because we know our faces the best!

Definitely a setting spray. If You are not used to wearing a full face of make up, go lightly on the application. you just wanna enhance your features not remake them. hope that helps.
