Does the venue push you to use their menu card?

Hi everyone

I would love to hear your thoughts on our menu cards at our reception party.

In my first meeting with the reception venue, I got an example of the menu card they made. There was a large restaurant name at the top of the card. Overall I wouldn't say I liked it (paper material, fonts, etc.). I have a specific menu card design in my mind.

We need to find out whether their menu card is a default option. So, I want to ask; 'Can I use the menu card I'm thinking of'. If they say no, I'll accept it.

And here the problem arises. My fiance and his mum think I might offend the restaurant a bit if I ask them to change the menu card to mine. Isn't it okay to ask whatever the groom/bride needs about the table setting, such as napkin color/folding menu cards, etc.?

Do you have an experience venue that required you to use their menu card only? I'd appreciate your opinions and happy holidays!

Honestly, I was thrilled when my venue said they printed up the menu. That was one less thing that I had to think about and spend money on. Guests typically aren’t looking at the whole menu card. They’re glancing at the food options and not focusing on the font style or what’s at the top. I don’t think the venue would be offended, but with a list of a thousand other things to worry about, I would just see this as something scratched off your list with minimal effort.

I don't think they'd be offended about paper, but it's your choice to put in the time for a template, money, and advance drop-off. I would have loved a free service for these last step details. Like Hannah says, guests are really looking at their choice selection, then the server takes this away. You should be able to request specific napkin shape if you have a private room, but linens must be provided if they don't have your color choice.

I don't think they would be offended -- one less thing for them to do. You can just say that you want a menu card that matches your invitations/theme/whatever.

I don't think they would be offended at all.

They will understand if you want it to match "your look".

As the customer, you should not worry about offending the venue and may ask any questions you want.
I designed our menu cards to match invitations and stuck one in the front of our photo album.
