Does my dad need to match?

FH is planning to wear either a black suit or a simple cut black tux. With a black tie. His best man will be in a black suit with black tie. Does it matter what color my dad wears, as long as it's a suit? I don't know if he even has a suit right now, since he's been retired for a few years and his weight has fluctuated. I'd really like him to wear a jacket, but I'm disinclined to care about what color he wears.

He can wear whatever you and your FS would like him to wear. You do not need to match a certain color, style, pattern, etc. if that doesn't matter to you. You may just have him asking a few times just to be certain. In my experience, the parents of the bride/groom seem to get really concerned about it...

They don't have to match. The groom/GM will be wearing gray suits with white shirts and lilac ties/pocket squares. The dads can get whatever gray suit (as long as they are the sameish color) and are wearing plum ties/bouts, and white shirts.

I think as long as he matches your colors. I am giving Future in laws and my mom and dad a color I would like for them to wear so guests can know they are our parents.

Doesn’t have to match at all. We are doing similar but different. Our grooms people will be in gray tuxes with purple ties. The fathers will be in black tuxes with similar purple ties.

Thank you all! If it matters, I'm 36 and he lives 4 states away. He's coming and he's walking me down the aisle, but he's not actively involved in planning. None of our parents are. So it's a little different. Since they're not processing at all, I'm not even concerning myself with what FH's parents are wearing. It literally doesn't matter. The only thought I had for my dad is that he IS processing, so it may impact how it looks. But as long as he's wearing a suit, I think I don't really care the color.

For my dad and my FH dad I have them matching. So they will be wearing the jacket and dress pants with a ivory under shirt and a black tie. The only difference from the dads, FH and groomsmen is the color of ties. And the my FH and groomsmen all waited to have the best under the jackets.
