We are having our wedding in early September and it's going to be casual cocktail - the grooms, for example, will not be wearing jackets and the bridesmaids will likely be in a shorter dress.

I already bought my dress but it's got a train and has lots of lace flowers. Also, someone just described it as looking elegant and we're going for rustic/garden vibes. Will I be dressed too formally? I figured as the bride I had a bit more leeway... Help a bride out? haha.

Side note- I will not be wearing a veil, my mom just insisted I try one on at the store. I'm also thinking of putting babies breath or something in my hair.

I don’t think you’re dressed to formally. Besides you’re the bride, you’re meant to stand out regardless

I had the same kind of thoughts. My girls are in long dresses and the guys are wearing vests and jackets, but since our reception is in a barn and the ceremony is outside I felt like I needed to have a more casual type dress to fit the atmosphere. But once I found my dress, which is fancier than anything I ever thought I would wear, I threw those ideas out the window. The way I look at it, I'm going to be the most dressed up person there regardless so I might as well wear the dress I love rather than try to fit the setting.

That's tough. Naturally you do want to match up with the venues style and you don't want everyone in casual duds while your looking like Cinderella but hey you CAN do whatever you like. Imagery is everything.

I think it will look great. The lace definitely fits your garden vibe (you can be elegant AND rustic!) and as PPs mentioned, you will stand out regardless. I've seen girls wear full ballgowns with cowboy boots and their groom in jeans and still make it look good, so there's no wrong way to do it.

Thanks everyone - I think I've been officially "talked off the ledge"!

Similar to what Ashley said, I was initially looking at a shorter dress or one without a train, but once I tried on this dress, it was perfect for me.
