Does anyone know about how much a dress can be taken in?

I've heard you can comfortably go about 2 sizes down, but after that it becomes almost like creating a whole new dress, so while sometimes possible, it is very labor intensive and therefore costly. Your best bet would be to talk to a seamstress.

Yes, it usually can be taken in two sizes. Do you need more than that?

My seamstress said she can take in 2 sizes. She can do more than that but it becomes very expensive as she needs to adjust many parts of the dress for it to look right.

For reference she took mine in 6.5 inches (more than I thought I’d need). And that plus a hem was $280, which I feel is an average alterations cost in my area

My seamstress was able to take my dress in more than 2 sizes but it seems many are not so it’s something I would ask.

I did, I decided not to pick the dress that would need to be taken in cause I didn't want to risk it.
