Does anyone have experience with clip in hair extensions?

Renee, on September 6, 2012 at 1:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

So while my hair is the length I want, I would like to to be fuller the day of the wedding. I was thinking about getting clip in hair extensions. So I'm wondering if they'll last through the night with my dancing. The last thing I need is to be dancing and finding a clip on somewhere near me on the dance floor!

Sorry I never have, but I am interested in this post as well so I will follow. I just want thicker hair for my updo and am thinking about the clip ins as well. I have learned how to make my own to cut down on the cost, but just not sure they will hold curl as well, even with the real hair and not sure it will have that shine that my hair has. Don't want it to look fake.

I'm part of a dance troupe and most of the girls wear the clip in hair pieces (either just clipped in or 1/2 falls). they stay in their hair without any additional tools (pins, etc). i believe the key is to tease your hair a bit in the area where they're clipped.

i'm sure others will have advice first hand, but if you want, i'd be more than happy to ask them specific questions if you'd like.

I do. I do. Clip in hair extensions are great! I went to Sally's to get mine. Just make sure you get Remy Hair ones. That's important. Those you can dye to match your hair color perfectly.

They'll stay fine. Ive used them many times. Make sure you tease a bit at the root where you will clip the hair piece.

Maybe I never notice good ones (like a good toupee).

Did a vow renewal on a boat on a windy day -- could see where the woman's extensions were fastened in.

Tease Plus a little hair spray always helps. I second the stick with remy. Don't get the horrible clip-ins that look like plastic.lol

I have them.. I have head kandy or candy... they are fantastic! Really heavy though - I would get them now and wear them one and off for a while.

I was doing the same thing but then I decided to try the glue in extensions. I have them in now and have had them for a month already - I LOVE THEM. they don't even feel like they are there.

I paid $250 for the hair and $150 for the install.

My clip ins cost me $180 I think.

I agreee... clip ins are great. They go in very easily (I made my own and styled my own hair). I would HIGHLY reccomend human hair, the synthetic broke out my face back and neck. I prefer clips to sew ins or glue because sew ins are very expesive and the brading is torture! and the glue on tracks can get messy and is a pain if you want them out before the glue wears out... I have heard very good things about the glue in extensions (be sure you are working with track hair or extension hair when you make your purchase. Sallys is great and not as overwhelming as some of the "pro-weave" shops... good luck and keep us posted :o)

Its weird, i actually have them on now. They are super great! i have had them for almost 2 weeks and havent for once taken them out. LOL I got a few human hair clip ons from my friend and made myself some after a few youtube videos. I usually do sewing of weaves but after i discovered these, i doubt I am going back.

I'm worried I will have the same problem as Vanessa. I have VERY thin and straight hair, always silky smooth which is great except I can't even keep a headband or hairclips in. They just slide out. When I was doing a hair trial at a bridal show, the girl suggested I get extensions for the wedding to make my hair have more to work with, but I'm afraid to spend money on something that might not work for me! Smiley sad

Ediekristen-- hair clips slide right out of my hair too unless they are the ones with that silicone like coating the inside. it stinks because i bought them and sewed the clips on made them myself and they dont stay in my hair!

Hey guys, I have done quite a few clip in extensions for my brides and here is what I always tell them.

    1. Remy hair! This is a very good quality human hair that you can style as your own.

    2. Buy the hair that is on the track , and then the clips separately, measure the pieces to fit your head exactly, cut and then sew on the clip. It is actually very easy to do.

    3. Get a teasing powder or really strong hairspray, apply, and tease a firm place for the clip to attach to.

    4. To help them blend better don't worry about taking a perfect part.

    5. Always leave at least an inch of hair out around your hairline and crown area to cover the clips.

You should be able to not only find hair that closely matches your hair color but clips as well. The more everything blends the less likely it should stand out. Hope this helps . Also one last thing be sure if you do a trial to take the clipins with you. Some stylist prefer to add a little extra time or may even have an extra charge.

I have a friend that is obsessed with them! She's bought some that are really nice, and some that the clips don't stay. Problem is, it can get in the way of an updo, and finding the right color.

So I had wanted my hair longer for a friend's wedding that I was in and opted for the "real hair" type that you can buy at Sallys. It was around $100 but you can dye them to match your hair color and curl them without any issues. For those that are interested, here's a before and after picture with them in. It's hard to see since it's all so dark but my hair is naturally thick and has texture but I straight-ironed it in the before shot. I had the gal at the salon put the extensions in my hair and blend them in and curl it all and keep in mind, the after shot is hours after the wedding...probably looking at 12hrs of being in my hair. A couple of techniques if your hair is too smooth, put the clip in towards your scalp and then bend it back out to secure the hair before clipping it. Almost as though you're backcombing with the clip itself. If your hair is thin, you risk seeing the clips unless you only use them towards the base of your head.
