Does anyone else hate the word "fiancé"?

LOL - I can't stand it! It sounds so snobby to me. Like if I say fiancé I should be holding a pinky out while I sip on tea. I only use it if I have to like when I'm introducing him to work people or strangers. My FH and I always joke about it and laugh hysterically feeee-yuhhhn-sayyyy

Yep I hate it too. I tried to avoid it as much as possible.

Although if I'm speaking in Polish then it's much worse - the word is "narzeczony" - half the time I can't pronounce the darn word and stuff it up!

It weirded me out at first, but now I'm used to it. Although where I live, "partner" for everything from boyfriends, to live in partners to spouses, is very common. It's more neutral but yet I still use fiance a fair bit.

Gotta say, I love it. It's so annoying dealing with someone at a store, or somewhere else, where you will never meet them again, and having to say "boyfriend" "partner" or "husband". Look, I'm very much out of the closet, and have no issue with it, but sometimes I don't feel the need to explain myself, and fiancé is gender neutral and I just let people assume what they wish and move on,

He's my partner, I'm his missus.

Keeps things simple while not disregarding that we'll be married by end of year after so long together.

Given our age, folk like to say boyfriend as if he's just my boyfriend - especially doctors. I'll use fiance then to correct them. Saves them trying to cut him out my treatment and not allow him access to info I've given my permission to pass to him.

@Pezzy I like that fiance is gender neutral (although the spelling isn't, which drives me nuts), which is why I like it more than boyfriend or husband. But it's so temporary that I prefer "partner" so I don't have to get used to different words.

Sometimes when I hear fiancé all I can think of is that Seinfeld episode where some lady at a party drove Elaine nuts going on & on about her "fian-SAYY" . It's completely ruined the word for me :-/

Um yes. FH still calls me his girlfriend and his coworkers get so mad. I say it depending on the scenario. Sometimes I even just call him my husband cause boyfriend and fiance sound to blah.

I call him my husband to my family, because everyone knows we're not married yet. He just calls me his wife. When I end up introducing him to someone it almost always goes, "And this is J, my husba-fiance!"

Haha! A little bit. We kinda skipped the fiance and just started calling each other husband and wife.

Fiancé doesn't bother me too much, it just feels a little awkward coming out. I don't like it when people refer to their SO as their partner, though. Looks like I'm in the minority there.

Oh but since we live together in Texas if we were to refer to each other as husband and wife in public, and the other let it slide and didn't protest, we'd be married from that point on (common law). No 1-, 5-, or 10-year waiting period for it to apply.

I was watching a Modern Family episode where Cam wasn't calling Mitch his 'fiance'...instead, he called him "my intended" and Mitch got all creeped out because he said it sounded murder-y, lol! After that, I decided to start calling my fiance "my intended" as well.

"My intended" just calls me his 'wife' because he thinks that I am seeing as I already agreed to marry him and it's just about waiting for the date to arrive because of all the little details we had to plan.

I have had an issue with this word for a while. I don't know if it comes down to that the whole wedding still doesn't feel real yet. Or that saying it makes me feel like I'm coming off that I think I'm superior than someone. I really only call him my fiance here and on Facebook, I still refer to him as my boyfriend. I can't wait to be able to call him my husband, but I'm sure I'll still call him my boyfriend ever so often.

Glad I'm not the only one! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy every minute of being engaged, just the word irks me. I also hate the words "ointment" and "moist".
