Does a day-of wedding coordinator for $1000 or less exist?

Private User, on January 7, 2014 at 4:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

We live in Los Angeles and currently looking to hire a day-of wedding planner. Our budget is VERY small and we plan to do almost everything ourselves: decorations, cake, flower arrangements, centerpieces, invitations, music, etc. We thought that since we'll be handling everything (and all the planner has to do is to make sure our wedding day runs smoothly) that the prices would be less than the $**** rates we've been quoted!! Can anyone recommend an awesome planner with reasonable rates? We're hoping to find someone for $1000 or less if possible, thanks!

Our DOC/Matron Dee, was part of the venue's contract. We are paying $500.00 for their "in-house" DOC

I'm in NJ too, our venue is in Central Jersey

    Craigslist?

I'm getting mine for under $500. I'm in Michigan and found a great small business woman who does mostly a la carte services.

I know they exist (I'm a wedding planner and we do packages as low as $300 depending on what you need) but I'm not so sure in L.A. Maybe ask around, visit bridal shows, try Google, try craigslist. Hopefully you can find someone because $2500 is insane for what it sounds like you would need.

I'm always weary aboyut the in house DOC. My venue also has an in house DOC, but I've heard horror stories about them dropping out, quitting their job halfway through, or just being plain ol useless. Plus with my DOC I'm using we're getting discounts just because of her name and people knowing of her.

I also agree with checking craigslist. I find several under 1k. I even did some google searches and found some. We went another route instead though. Good luck.

I think it depends on where you live and the going rates, but I got my wedding coordinator for $450 with taxes in. She is there in addition to the venue coordinator to set up decor for me, pay vendors day of and some stuff leading up to the wedding day etc.

I found her on craigslist, lol!

I'm in the same situation. I'm paying $300-$400 for mine in LA. She only advertises through word of mouth. And does candy stations and dessert tables for the most part. Supplying everything so all she needs to do that day is make sure the vendors know where to go, and that they get fed, that all the stations are replenished and look pretty, people can find their tables, and at the end gather the gifts and sent to my house.

One of the venues we're considering includes a DOC, which is super great, because I probably wouldn't fit it into the budget if it didn't come with the venue.

My wedding was in Burbank and my DOC lived (hopefully still does) in Valencia and did it all for $350. It was great, because I thought I was getting "a" DOC, it turned out that since they are kind of starting out I got 2 DOCs for the price of one, but I'm not sure if they're still doing the 2 for 1 deal. Here is their website: http://www.atlastplanning.com/

You can ask for Dianne or Candice and tell them Shelley Rivera sent you.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions!

Go to a university that teaches a wedding planner course and get someone there. Theyll want a review from a bride to start their career. Just find out when the class is and put a sign up right outside the door so they see it when they leave. If they dont call immediately then they didnt see the sign

Could you ask an organized and a little bit bossy friend and give her (or him) a $100-$200 gift card. That's what I'm doing.

    Thanks for all your recommendations!

GameCox-- it's a great idea, but I'd want my friend to be able to enjoy the day with me too. It's stressful to run a wedding and make sure everything happens as planned.

Erica and Evelin-- can I please get your DOC's contact info?

Shelley R and Amy S-- I really appreciate the info will definitely check them out! Thanks so much for sharing!
