Do you need a ceremony AND reception gown?

I meant detachable bottom, its a dress that converts from a ceremony dress to a reception dress, it's like a convertible wedding dress.

I'm a 1 dress girl. I could prob find a cute cheap dress but i bought a dress that I LOVE. I can't imagine not staying in my dress all night. When will I ever have the chance to wear it again?? Maybe a TTD, but...

My FH's custom dictate changing into traditional attire so he says I should have a reception dress...but I'm not budging. I don't wear dresses (cuz I'm REALLY top heavy..hoping to get chopped soon) so I refuse to torture myself by wearing TWO. LOL Plus I love the one I'm getting!

TTD!! i don't get these trends at all. my mom saved her dress all these years in a box, looks like new. of course, i'm not going to wear it and no one probably will, but maybe it'll be worth a lot one day! I do agree with you though, mrs. joseph, i'll probably end up just wearing one.

It's not a requirement, thats for sure! It's fun if you can afford it if you want to switch from formal to fun and flirty for your groom. I was thinking of changing into just a little sun dress just to make it easier to finish up the night and help my parents clean up. I'm not running off into the sunset with my groom, we're sticking around to take care of the place because we have no wedding-night hotel plans, we're just going to come home to save us some cash for our honeymoon.

I saw on a show a dress that you can take off the bottom for a lighter dress for the reception, I am hoping to find the same.

You don't have to get both. If you'd like to though, you can. I'm only doing one . . . for the money I'm going to spend I can't see getting two! I'm going to get as much time in it as I can!

You don't have to get multiple dresses, but if it works within your budget and you feel you might want to change out of your wedding dress, then I don't see why you can't have a second dress.

I decided to have two dresses because I am having two receptions: one abroad and one back home. But I don't think it is a rule to have multiple dresses.

YOu don't have to. I think it's a personal choice some woman want it some dont. I personally want to wear my dress all night and as long as possible! lol

I had 2 dresses. It wasn't my intention. I just couldn' stop thinking about one dress I had tried on and couldn't afford. So after I bought a different dress, I decided to buy a knock off of the 1st dress. Ceremony dress- $150 Reception dress- $350. Still cheaper than a lot of brides who only have 1 dress.

My ceremony dress was quite snug. So I couldn't dance, let a lone sit in it.

I'm only staying the one. I'm in LOVE with it!!!!!!!!!

Staying in as well. but i guess it's really up to how you feel in the ceremony dress. i mean, if its a really elaborate dress you LOVE but cant really move around in.. by all means, get a reception dress you can really get down in if its in your budget. but me presonally, I will be staying in mine. i want to spend as much time in it as possible. =)

I have two gowns and did not plan that! I went to a bridal
store and told them my budget and I needed to leave with one that day. So I had to buy a sample! They had a sample sale and the dress I love most was way under budget and they said they would give me a second gown in my budget and that second one was marked down TWO THOUSAND dollars and didn’t have any tears or buttons missing. The first one only had 3 buttons missing by the way. The ceremony dress is very simple and the reception dress is the opposite: sparkly tulle, lace etc…. So I was like okay best of both worlds! And I would love to pass down the simple ceremony dress. It’s so timeless and could survive any decade. And I didn’t want spills so a change is good for me and it’s hotter because it has a built in bra/corset! Otherwise I’d be very happy with just one but it was all in my budget. Couldn’t resist the sample sale!!!!!

Great you got two dresses in your budget. Are you going to get pictures with your partner and the wedding party in just the ceremony dress? Will the change of outfits work out well between the ceremony and the reception?

It can be whatever you want! It seems the second dress for the reception is for comfort for dancing, so yes shorter if you want!! When I did some research, it’s also for preserving the first one from spills and sweat etc. I have two gowns only because I went dress shopping and for two dresses in my budget. So I thought it was cool to get one simple gown and one with sparkly tulle and lace. The second one was marked down $2000! And the first one was marked down all to fit my budget. I want the first simple dress preserved!
