Do you get seasick on cruise ships?

Mrs Lilow, on February 8, 2011 at 1:13 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 27

I have never been on one and have heard plenty of people say "the boat is so big you don't get sick", but is this really true? I get sick anytime I go on a boat...can anyone share their experience?

My brother got SUPER seasick on the cruise he went on a few months ago, and he was on that huge azz ship (the one that like, caught on fire). But, lots of people say you don't. He goes water skiing all the time, and doesn't get sick from that, so who knows!

I didn't, it is very big and you really don't feel the motion unless the weather it bad. That said, pack some dramamine, it is much cheaper at your local drug store than on the ship.

I didn't- but I don't have any motion sickness issues. My ex husband got sick within hours, while still in port. Just bring plenty of dramamine, and take it the second you start feeling things come on. Most people want to go lay down until they feel better, but you really need to go up to the deck!

I never get sick on small ships, but I got sick on a cruise I went on in December. I didn't get super sick, but I was sick enough to be uncomfortable. I took dramamine (which worked but not as well as I would've liked), but my friend had the nifty patch she got from her doctor. I'd recommend getting the patch just in case.... better safe than sorry.

I did on our frist and when the weather gets a little rough. Carnival ships will give you draminamine (sp?) for free at the pursers desk. just dont take it with a drink (from the bar) b/c for some reason it makes you pass right out and you miss dinner Smiley sad. just pop one first thing in the morning if you are worried and all will be good!

I did and I don't have motion sickness problems. To be fair though it was after about 3 days into the cruise and the boat was definitely a-rocking. My aunt had gotten a prescription for the motion sickness patches so I used one. It goes behind your ear. It solved the problem, but the 1st night after I put it on, I got the serious jitters and had a really hard time sleeping and it also made me insanely thirsty. However the 2nd day of wearing it and I was fine and fine the rest of the trip.

I only got sick once on a cruise (out of 7 or 8), and it was because we were literally stuck in the middle of a hurricane at sea. Take ginger pills and you'll be fine..they work MUCH better than specialty drugs!

I get motion sick just driving in the car to the super market. I usually take dramamine when I travel but it puts me to sleep and bonine has never worked for me. I just went on my first cruise (the Allure of the Seas so VERY big ship) and I could feel the rocking sometimes. I used the patch you put behind your ear that you get from the doctor and it worked great. The first day of the 3 day cycle would make me sleepy if I drank any alcohol but day 2 and 3 were fine. I would give that a try, better then having to pop pills every day. Oh and it does give you dry mouth but it didn't' bother me at all because I always had water or lemonade on hand Smiley smile good luck and ENJOY!

I get VERY sick and I LOVE cruises! The meds they give make me sleepy and dont mix well with drinking at all. Oh and I lost my vision with the patch behind the ear, (apparently a side affect). It really works! Several of my friends have used it after me telling them about it, and they said it worked as well. If you have a small wrist order a childs size.

Go to your doctor and get a Scopalamine patch. Its a small circle a little bigger than a dime and they are good for 72hrs. You put it behind your ear below your hair line. I suggest putting it on the day before the cruise so that its already kicked it before you get on the ship. You can swim and shower with it and it stays on. I used one on my cruise to the bahamas in january and it worked!

I have gotten sea sick as a kid on a few cruises. There are wonderful sea sick arm bands that there is a part on it that goes on your pressure point on your wrists that really helps. Those and Bonine have really helped me for the past 2 that I have been on and no sea sickness whatsoever.

I don't get sick on any type of boat or cruise ship. However, I am quite claustrophobic, so we can only book a cabin with a balcony. Those tiny rooms kill me. I am the same way on long drives. I guess I need to have my behind on the back of a motorcycle all of the time.

I have been on two and I got sick on both of them. The second cruise I got the patch, which did help but I still got sick on one really rocky day. The first trip I lost weight, that is how skick I was. The bands did not work for me. I just asked my doctor for a prescription for the patch.

My wife and I cruised to Alaska in '08. Neither one of us got sea sick. You hardly know you're moving...except one night we hit some purty rough seas and the boat was going up...and down...and up....and down... (sorry, couldn't resist! LOL). You'll be fine...don't worry about it, cruising is the only way to go and you are going to have an awesome time!!!

Went on my first cruise this past June. I did not get sick.... but I could feel the boat rocking. There are definite spots on the boat the are more rocky than others.

My problem was AFTER we got off the boat.... I still had that rocking feeling for a week afterwards.

I get motion sickness on EVERYTHING - cars, planes, boats, buses, etc. My family and I took a cruise and as a preventative measure I got the motion sickness patch prescribed to me...you put it behind your ear and it releases medication without making you drowsy. It did, however make me blind for a day and for several hours after I took it off so I would not recommend that...it was listed as a side effect but I never thought it would happen! Most people say that you don't get sick on a cruise anyway so I took it off, but we had a stormy cruise so it was extra bumpy and was making me sick. I ended up getting seabands in the gift shop (you can get them in any drugstore or pharmacy section with the dramamine). They are drug free and they worked wonders! Now I use them whenever I travel and I haven't been sick in years!

I get very very sea sick. I've been out deep sea fishing and whale watching...etc...and I always feel horrible the whole time. But I've been on 3 cruises with no problems, including an Alaskan cruise on a ship that was more of a boat than anything. The only time I ever felt just a little queesy was when we'd sit at the very front of the ship.
