Do we really need steak at our reception?

It seems like once you get less than 1 year away, you start really crunching numbers. Sheesh. That's what hubby and I have been doing. We cut our list already and are now looking at the per person meal rate. There is a $12.95 difference per person if we do only chicken and fish, as opposed to...

We cut our list already and are now looking at the per person meal rate. There is a $12.95 difference per person if we do only chicken and fish, as opposed to chicken, fish and steak. Doesn't seem like a lot but multiply that by 68 which is what our count is now including us and it's a nice chunk of $. So, do we really need steak? If you were a guest, would it matter the only choices were chicken or fish?

The Prime Rib at my wedding was amazing. We chose the venue based on their reputation for food and it was actually reasonable. Also lucky for us, they didn't charge extra for more meal choices. We had chicken, beef, haddock and veggie.

I usually get the beef when I go to a wedding. But wouldn't mind eating chicken. And sounds like you have plenty of food. I wouldn't worry one bit. Smiley smile

Nay, it's kind of a moot point now, but in the interest of me being clear, I wasn't saying I'd look at the menu and if there wasn't a beef option I'd slip into the gift envelope and remove some cash. I just think that, in light of the gift they will likely be giving, not offering a beef option for the people that don't like chicken or fish is inconsiderate. For my guests, I would cut other parts of the meal just to make sure I was able to put that on the menu. I'm sorry my answer doesn't agree with your preferred solution.

To almost about everyone else, I guess I'm just lucky because I've never had an awful steak at a wedding. And anyway, to me, an ok filet (or even an ok prime rib) is far better than the best chicken I've ever had.

But, like you said, you know your guests, so give them what you know they'll enjoy. And I was serious when I said whatever you are able to save on the wedding itself could go into the honeymoon fund. I wish you luck and happiness!

I wouldn't miss it. Especially if I didn't know it were an option haha.

We had two types of pasta: one with meat sauce, and another that was cheese and spinach for the vegetarians, etc. For those who don't like pasta, too bad. It's our wedding, and it's what we wanted. Everyone loved the food Smiley smile And I didn't hear a single complaint about the options, even though our venue is also a well known restaurant around here with a TON of options on their regular menu.

We did Chicken Marsala, Baked Columbia River Salmon and London Broil for my daughters reception.

I think beef, in some form, should be offered (even though I would personally eat fish or chicken.)
