Here is the deal. We were both raise catholic and want a catholic priest to marry us HOWEVER, since out wedding is outdoors it won't "count" in the catholic church and that won't add the check mark to our sacraments. Therefore, we would have to renew our vows later on IN church in order to be able to baptize our children blah blah blah. Do we need precana for a wedding w a priest but not in the church?

Just had precana 1 day 11 hours it sucked but it was one of those do it n go. Priests have to marry you in the church. You can have a catholic wedding without the Eucharist though for interfaith marriages.

The Catholic Church is very strict when it comes to this. I heard priest will not marry you outside of the church because that's going against what they believe in. As far as precana every church I have looked up requires it and I doubt they will let you slide, they are so strict.

Actually a lot of it depends on the Arch Bishop for that region. Some of it is up to the priest's discretion and other things are mandated. I believe precana is one of those mandated things though that one must go through.

To second what Mallory said: we had our son baptized back in 2004. We were not married (obviously) and there was no problem. FYI: one of the godparents has to be a confirmed Catholic and there is a Baptism preparation class to attend.

We have our precana class on 4/26. I don't understand why it has to be 8 hours long. My FH's family requires the church wedding.
