Do we need a Dj?

Krystyn, on June 11, 2019 at 10:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
My fiance and I are considering not getting a DJ. Our budget is very small and he has some hearing issues and is worried the loud music would make the problem worse. Has anyone been to a wedding where they're wasn't a DJ? What did they do instead? Your advice is appreciated.

Lots of girls don’t get a DJ if you can afford a MC to keep things flowing. Then make a Spotify list.

We are going to make a playlist and connect it to a bluetooth speaker.

Our venue has speakers set up so we just need to make a playlist. We’re also having our guests request songs on their rsvp cards to help us make our list.

I'd say figure out the kinda vibe you want your reception to have. Do you want a wild dancefloor? At the very least, you'll need a good MC with a playlist.
Would you rather play yard games? A dinner party feel? I went to a reception over the weekend that had a playlist lower hooked to some speakers, no one really danced, it was more of a family reunion vibe.

Been to several fun evening weddings with no DJ/dancing. Dinner was fun enough.

I am also doing a Spotify playlist instead of a DJ. I think if it's not important for either of you it would be a great way to cut costs and use the money elsewhere.

I highly recommend a DJ. Best decision I could have ever made.

I've been to plenty weddings with no dj. At the end of the day stuff like dj is optional and depends on your budget. Initially I wasn't going to have one but decided to add it

I personally think the DJ is the life of the party. They know what types of songs to play and when, they interact with the crowd and keep people dancing. They also introduce the bridal party/bride and groom, direct things such as the first dance, father-daughter dance, etc. and they also announce things such as cake cutting.

Every wedding I have been to has had a DJ and I cannot imagine a wedding without one 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm doing self DJed with a playlist on a computer with a speaker and microphone. We've made MCing my junior bridesmaid and one of the groomsmen's job so the two of them will select songs and hit play and sound check the microphone and everything. Saved us like $300 dollars and frankly a lot of venue space. We're setting the dance floor and computer up away from my FH because he has sensory issues and wants an opportunity to stay away from most of it but my family still wants to dance. We've tested the audio set up in the venue and it's loud enough to get hyped if your on the dance floor but quiet enough to just be background if your near the sweetheart table or dessert bar.

My personal opinion is that a DJ is so important for the flow of your reception. They keep the party going! But it's all up to you for the vibe you want to have. For us (me in particular lol) a fun dance party reception was a must-have!
