Do we have enough food or should we budget for more?

mrswinteriscoming, on February 16, 2021 at 6:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

(If FH and I continue with our original wedding plans) we will be having a grand black tie soiree hosted in an opulent Victorian ballroom. Following the ceremony, we will have cocktail hour with canapes and drinks served, followed by a 3 course sit down dinner plus wedding cake.

Due to there being lots of alcohol (incl. spirits) my parents are insisting we have extra food on the table such as shared entrees (think antipasto platters or platters of smoked salmon on blini) alongside individual entrees, or some additional sides with mains. I am trying to cut some expenses and think there will be enough food, and that if someone wants to get absolutely wasted, no amount of food will stop that anyway.

WW – what do you think, do we pay for extra food or cut the cost?

A cocktail hour and 3 course meal are enough. You can maybe do a late night snack if you want to add something, but I don't think you need additional entrees while people are currently eating their entrees.

What you are providing is plenty. No reason to add extra.

You have more than enough food they don’t need antipasto and all that. It will go to waste unfortunately. Good luck family can be tough

I agree with the others- that’s plenty of food. You can serve edible favors later in the evening.

I think that’s plenty of food for meal time, no need to add more. Adding a late night snack would be a great addition though!

Sounds like plenty of food to me. You can always consider adding a late night snack if dinner will be immediately following cocktail hour, but probably not necessary

I think that sounds like enough. Maybe opt for a late night snack like pizza or sliders for before people head out.

As someone who's served weddings before, that's definitely enough. Like Hannah said, maybe a late night snack if you want to add something. Anything more would pretty much go to waste and your money would go right in the bin with it. One of the weddings I worked had a 5 course meal. (Very short cocktail hour with no appetizers, so the only food was the meal.) After the 2nd course about 1/4 of the plates weren't touched. After the 3rd course, more than half of them weren't touched. It was a beautiful dinner service, but about 1/3 of all the food there was just tossed without a bite having been taken.
