Do we feed photographer, videographer, and officiant?

DRGCAS, on August 4, 2015 at 8:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 53

Are brides/grooms supposed to pay for meals for the photographer, videographer and officiant? If so, where do they sit? I have an exact number of people attending and all seats have been assigned. Do I get a separate table? Please help!

Yes you are supposed to provide food and drinks. Most people have a vendor table set up.

Yes, I'm offering meals to my officiant, photographers, videographer, and DJ. Some may accept and some may decline- but I'm still offering.

Thanks! I honestly didn't think about this until a coworker mentioned it. Drinks? Do you mean alcoholic? I wouldn't want the photographer and videographer to get drunk. LOL

Check your contract alot of vendors stipulate that they must be fed. As for where they sit, they usually are not sitting among the guests

@allysia, that's what I'm wondering, do they sit with my guests or do I have to ask the venue for a separate area.

Talk to your venue. They probably have a spot where they normally seat vendors. They also might give you a discount for vendor meals.

I don't know exactly where my venue does it. I've never seen any vendors (with the exception of officiant) eat among guests but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. At the last wedding I attended, the DJ was set back in a nook and he just had a small table there and ate super quick ( less than 5 minutes) and was back to DJing. That was the only wedding that I ever noticed a vendor eating.

I would talk to your venue- they'll tell you what they normally do for vendor meals.

ETA: definitely ask about a discount. My vendor meals are only 25 dollars.

My vendors get a meal, they're served at a table in the kitchen area. My venue has a discounted cost for vendor meals.

My photographer and videographer mentioned that they prefer to sit out with the guests because they can catch any moments that happen during dinner that they would miss if they were seated in a back room. That made total sense to me and I had no problem with that so I went ahead and put them at a table with the other guests. You should read your contracts for sure because in mine it states that if we don't feed the photographer/videographer they can leave the venue for up to an HOUR to go get food. That's an hour of my wedding that wouldn't have coverage and that they would be getting paid through the nose to go grab a bite.

Yes, you should offer a meal to your vendors. At my venue, it's discounted $20 from the regular price. As for seating, that's a question for your venue. Some will have a vendor table in the same area as the guests, and others have a separate area where they typically seat vendors during dinner.

Offer meals. My photographer declined, videographer had it in his contract (also mentioning that if he was sat outside of the reception area he was not liable for missing anything that happened), the band had it in their contract, officiant was a friend and also a guest - but I would have offered it and left the decision up to the officiant otherwise. We also offered meals to our venue owners who acted as DOC day-of. They seemed surprised we thought of them and were glad to have been included.

Definitely see if your venue will offer you discount for your vendors. Mine offers half price. We're definitely going to feed our vendors. Plus, we wouldn't want them leaving for an hour or two just to get food...

My officiant sat with her family (neighbors I have know 40 years!) and I remember the photographer declining meals for both of them, and the videographer I think did his own thing on the way to reception. Dj also declined a meal if I remember.

We are feeding all of our vendors. All of our vendors are friends of fh, except our photographer. They will all be seated with the rest of our guests. Our photographer will be seated with my dad and siblings at a table up front.

Our vendors have mention in the contracts about receiving a meal. Even if they don't, it's a nice gesture. Our venue gives half price vendor meals and seats them away from the rest of the guests; your venue may do something similar.
