Do people usually show up on time?

My new thing to stress about... Are we risking people coming in after we've started if we move the ceremony up to 5:15? And, would a friendly reminder to arrive on time become necessary?

Edit: Thanks ladies! We were kind of blindly following advice that as well intended as it may have been, wasn't the best. We will be moving the time up to the invitation time and sending out a reminder to our notoriously late guests.

Yet another reason why I love WW! Had I not participated in the forums, I would have continued to blindly follow this bad advice and looked like a jerk.

I'm not sure what to do about this. I have an aunt who has not been anywhere on time for as long as I have been alive. A friend that recently got married said that her mother, who used to plan military events all the time used to put an odd time on invitations if they really needed something to start on time. For example, putting 5:23 if you want to start at 5:30. I am of the opinion that my start time is my start time.

I'm always at least 15 minutes early to things, so I would be annoyed with an invite that had a time 30 minutes before the actual start time because I'd have to sit for 45 minutes.

I put a start time of 2:00 on our invites. We are starting at 2:00. If you aren't there, oh well.

Most of our guests were EARLY but all were on time. Assume your guests are adults, unless there is some sort of cultural custom in which they arrive late.

Our start time was 5:30. That is what was listed on the invites and everyone was there before I walked in. Most people were there 15 to 20 minutes early.

Most people know you shouldn't be late to a wedding. You should start at 5 pm.

Most adults know to show up early to a wedding. Our invites state a 2:30 start time for the ceremony. The latest we will start is 2:35

I was 15 minutes late due to traffic, but I didn't intend to be. We put 3pm on the invites and the ceremony started at 3:15,. All of our guests were on time.

We put 3:00 on the invitation and we had the minster and the men walk out at 3:00 on the dot. To my knowledge we only had 2 cars that did not make it on time and missed the ceremony.

The time you put on your invites is the time the ceremony is scheduled to start, not a buffer time.
